  • Publication number: 20170001390
Abstract: A mould for the production of a contact lens, the mould comprising a first mould half shaped to provide the front surface of the contact lens; and a second mould half shaped to provide the rear surface of the contact lens, wherein the first and second mould halves form a mould cavity, wherein the first mould half has a first rim and the second mould half has a second rim, and the first and second rims fit together to provide a seal for the mould cavity, wherein the first rim is inclined at an angle of x relative to an axis passing through the centre of the first and second mould halves, wherein x is from 30 to 60°, and wherein the second rim is inclined at an angle of x-y relative to the axis passing through the centre of the first and second mould halves, where y is from 0 to 4°, and wherein the first and second rims provide a guide for the mould halves, a method of making a contact lens using the mould and a method of making a mould.

  • Publication number: 20080277811
Abstract: A mould set for making contact lenses comprising a first unitary half mould set comprising a plurality of male mould halves in a first array and a second unitary half mould set comprising a plurality of female mould halves in a second array, wherein the arrays are such as to permit the engagement of respective pairs of male and female mould halves to define a corresponding set of mould cavities therebetween, and to permit engagement of each said female mould half with a different said male mould half by relative rotation of the first and second array about an axis of rotation, such that the male and female mould halves can be engaged in a plurality of different relative orientations. The shape and/or orientation of the male mould halves in the first array, and the female mould halves in the second array is not identical for each mould half in each said array, whereby relative rotation results in the definition of different sets of respective mould cavities.
