  • Patent number: 6924745
Abstract: A system and method for monitoring a device in a well, according to which a sensor associated with the device monitors any movement of the device in the well and outputs a corresponding signal. The signal is processed and transmitted to a remote location.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 13, 2002
Date of Patent: August 2, 2005
    Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.

  • Publication number: 20030004081
Abstract: A composition and method for the removal of scale from a substrate are disclosed. The composition and method are more specifically utilized for the in situ removal of silicate-containing scale from interior surfaces of boilers and other heat exchange equipment. The silicate-containing scale is deposited in the boilers as silicate-sulfate complexes of calcium, magnesium, aluminum, and other metal atoms that are present in water. The composition, which is circulated throughout the boiler to contact the interior surfaces, such as the boiler tubes, includes a chelating agent having at least two carboxylic acid functional groups, preferably citric acid. The composition also includes an alkali metal hydroxide basic agent. The preferred alkali metal hydroxides are either potassium or sodium hydroxide. The basic agent establishes an overall basic pH of from 7 to 14 in the composition to enable precipitation of the metal atoms from the composition after interaction with the chelating agent.

  • Patent number: 4691775
Abstract: An isolation valve that may be inserted in the casing of a subterranean well at a position above a production formation and operated to a closed position upon the withdrawal of the mandrel and wash tube commonly employed for effecting the gravel packing of the screen and production formation. The valve has a frangible flapper piercable by mechanical means or by increased pressure after removal of the wash tube.

  • Patent number: 4372527
Abstract: A blowout preventer comprises a housing with a pair of opposed rams carrying sealing blocks for sealing against tubing extending through the housing. Openings in the front side of the housing provide access to the sealing blocks for changing the blocks and a door closes the openings during normal in-service use of the preventer. A door guide permits the door to be slid in either of two opposing edgewise directions for exposing the openings one at a time but keeps the door from being movable substantially in a broadwise direction. Sealing inserts disposed within the openings between the door and the sealing blocks serve to seal against leakage and a rack and pinion mechanism provides the means for sliding the door from a centered position closing both openings to opposite edgewise positions exposing one or the other of the openings.

  • Patent number: 4363358
Abstract: A hanger and stinger assembly includes an expandable joint therebetween for the stinger to be telescoped with the hanger between extended and collapsed positions. An actuating spool for use in conjunction with a wireline tool mechanism is provided for hydraulically actuating the slips on the hanger and a releasable catch is connected between the stinger and a tubular receptacle mounted on the hanger to normally limit upward movement of the stinger to its extended position. A latch at the upper end of the stinger is utilized to hold the catch in a release position enabling the stinger to be withdrawn from the receptacle by a straight pull and a locking mechanism normally positions the latch to keep from holding the catch in its release position and the locking mechanism is hydraulically actuated.
