  • Publication number: 20120195033
Abstract: A lighting device, comprising a housing and at least one mounting clip. The housing comprises an electrical connection region engageable in an electrical receptacle. The mounting clip is pivotable from a first position, where an end region of the mounting clip does not extend beyond a periphery of the housing, to a second position, where the end region extends beyond the housing periphery. Also, a lighting device, comprising a housing, a trim element and at least one mounting clip. The mounting clip is pivotable, such that if the mounting clip is in a second position and then the trim element is rotated, the mounting clip will pivot to a third position, where the mounting clip engages the housing such that the trim element is biased toward a ceiling or other structure in which the lighting device is mounted. Also, methods of installing housings and/or trim elements.

  • Patent number: 8136965
Abstract: A lighting device comprises a heat sink, a housing mounted to and/or thermally coupled to the heat sink, a basket assembly attached to the housing, a solid state light emitter thermally coupled to the heat sink, and a baffle assembly attached to the housing. Also, a lighting device comprising a basket assembly and a baffle assembly. In some embodiments, the basket assembly comprises a first member defining a first opening, a second member, a space between the first and second members, and lenses in the opening and in the space. In some embodiments, the heat sink extends farther in a first direction in a first plane than a largest dimension of the housing in any plane which is parallel to the first plane. In some embodiments, at least one additional component (e.g., a power supply module or a junction box) is in contact with the heat sink element.

  • Publication number: 20120051041
Abstract: An indirect troffer. Embodiments of the present invention provide a troffer-style fixture that is particularly well-suited for use with solid state light sources, such as LEDs. The troffer comprises a light engine unit that is surrounded on its perimeter by a reflective pan. A back reflector defines a reflective interior surface of the light engine. To facilitate thermal dissipation, a heat sink is disposed proximate to the back reflector. A portion of the heat sink is exposed to the ambient room environment while another portion functions as a mount surface for the light sources that faces the back reflector. One or more light sources disposed along the heat sink mount surface emit light into an interior cavity where it can be mixed and/or shaped prior to emission. In some embodiments, one or more lens plates extend from the heat sink out to the back reflector.

  • Patent number: 8096670
Abstract: A diffuser for a lighting device comprises a diffuser region, a hook element and a nose element. A light fixture comprises a housing with an opening and a diffuser as described above, in which the nose element extends through the opening, optionally further comprising an accessory including at least one spring element engaging the hook element. A light fixture structure comprises a housing defining an opening and an first attachment element comprising a nose element, a hook element and a connection region, and optionally further comprising a diffuser engaging a first portion of the hook element, and/or an accessory which engages a second portion of the hook element. An eyeball accessory comprises first and second housing elements pivotably attached to each other. An accessory for a light fixture comprises a housing member and a spring element engageable with a fixture.

  • Patent number: 7967480
Abstract: A lighting fixture comprises a mounting assembly and two rails. At least one of the rails is slidable relative to the mounting assembly. The rails are each extruded, and have profiles which are substantially similar to each other. Each rail has a male component which fits within a female component of the other. Also, a fixture comprising a mounting assembly comprising an opening through which a light engine housing can be inserted, and (1) a spring clip and/or (2) a clip engagement structure. Also, a fixture comprising a mounting assembly, a first set of rails, and a supplemental rail. The supplemental rail is slidable relative to the light emitting element mounting assembly. Also, a fixture comprising a mounting assembly, a set of rails, and an engagement element having a first portion being in contact with a first rail and a second portion in contact with the second rail.

  • Publication number: 20090284958
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for adapting unfinished lighting fixture rough-ins to receive a lighting module, such as an incandescent light bulb or a light-emitting diode (LED) lighting device, are disclosed. According to one aspect, a universal adapter is provided that can be inserted into an existing lighting fixture rough-in, secured in place, and electrically connected to the lighting fixture rough-in. In this way, the adapter stands in place of the finishing section typically used in current lighting fixture designs. As a result, the adapter can modify an unfinished lighting fixture so that it can be used with a variety of lighting elements beyond those designed to be used with the specific configuration of the lighting fixture rough-in.
