    Abstract: Provided are techniques for using a specification. A first specification that was created in a portable data format with an archive tool is imported, wherein the specification indicates whether data is to be archived or retrieved, wherein the specification was created for execution at a first computing device, and wherein importing includes parsing information in the first specification to populate one or more data structures. A second specification is created using the one or more data structures, wherein the second specification may be executed at a second computing device which imported the first specification.
