Abstract: Stable liquid formulations of the anti-tumor agent L-alanosine are described. These formulations preferably comprise L-alanosine in an aqueous environment having a basic pH, preferably in the range of about pH 8-9. The alanosine formulations and compositions disclosed herein can be used for various purposes, including the treatment of various cancers, particularly those that are deficient in methylthioadenosine phophorylase (MTAP) enzymatic activity. Also described are methods for the treatment of diseases susceptible to treatment with alanosine, e.g., certain cancers, particularly those characterized by tumor cells that are MTAP deficient, wherein a patient is administered L-alanosine, alone or as part of a combination therapy with a second chemotherapeutic agent.

  • Patent number: 6690828
Abstract: A method of generating a compact representation of a digital image is described. A digital image is converted to a square bitmap and divided into a plurality of cells. Each cell is subdivided into a plurality of regions. A minimum intensity region and a maximum intensity region in each cell are identified in each set of the plurality of cells. Cell representation data is generated for each cell in each set of cells based on the positions of the minimum intensity region and the maximum intensity region in the cell. Combining all of the cell representation data in each set of cells for the image creates a compact representation of the original digital image. A method of comparing cell representation data is also described. Cell representation data for a collection of source images is organized into a database. A search of the database identifies candidate images that are at least minimally similar to a target image.

  • Patent number: 5995020
Abstract: An apparatus for transmitting electricity between downhole well tools and the well surface. The apparatus incorporates a surface controller in combination with a conductor and a downhole receiver module. A choke prevents electricity from the controller from entering a high voltage DC power source, and a downhole regulator converts high voltage, low current power into high current, low voltage power. This feature of the invention permits a single wire to transmit sufficient power to operate multiple downhole well tools. The controller also includes a transmitter and a modulator operable to generate an electric signal representating at least two states, wherein a first state is represented by a signal, and wherein a second state is represented by the absence of an electric signal. A receiver module receives the electric signals and selectively transmits commands to the associated well tool or to the surface controller.
