Abstract: In some aspects, a method includes connecting over a network to a data storage system, the data storage system storing data objects. A dataflow graph that includes nodes representing data processing components connected by links that represent flows of data access an interface of the data storage system. The interface provides functions for accessing the data objects. At least one of the data processing components performs operations on a received input flow of data that enable the functions provided by the interface to modify one or more stored data objects, and performs operations in response to functions provided by the interface to generate an output flow of data.

Abstract: A computer-based method of formatting rules for monitoring application responsiveness, the method including defining a collection of resources, each such resource being a source of application events; and defining a first transaction as a timeframe for measuring application responsiveness. The first transaction includes a pattern of application events from resources in the collection of resources, the pattern being defined as a block of constructs, wherein each construct in the block of constructs is selected from a group of construct syntaxes consisting of an event construct syntax, a choice construct syntax, a sequence construct syntax, and a last construct syntax.

Abstract: Systems and methods for automated monitoring and management of distributed applications, client/server databases, networks and systems across heterogeneous environments. Distributed, automated intelligent monitoring agents use embedded sensing technology which is knowledgeable of application protocols, to monitor continuously the network environment in real time. To this end, the monitoring agent can be located on each client and server in the network. The monitoring agent can couple to the communications stack for monitoring the data that is being passed between the client and the network, of a server in the network. The data can be collected and employed for trouble shooting trend analysis, resource planning, security auditing, and accounting as well as other applications. Also included is a controller for remotely coordinating the data gathering process from the various clients and servers.
