  • Publication number: 20030070514
Abstract: A tear drop hand grip to manipulate torque applying tools includes a primary gripping portion and a secondary portion at the base for stabilizing the orientation of a torque applying tool. Both lay symmetrically along the longitudinal axis of a torque applying tool. The primary portion is hemispherical at its' first end where it is joined to the torque applying tool and tapers to a dimension approximating one half the diameter of the hemisphere at the second end. The surface of the primary portion may include projections configured to enhance friction between the primary gripping portion and a hand gripping same. The secondary portion is attached to the second end of the primary portion and may rotate unconstrained by the rotation of the primary portion.

  • Patent number: 6006411
Abstract: This bearing carrier puller for extracting a bearing carrier from a lower gear case of a marine drivetrain consists of three components: a boss which envelopes a propeller shaft and is secured to it by a nut and washer; a block which bears against a lower gear case of a marine drivetrain; and a nut which threads over the boss and bears against the block to extract a bearing carrier. A first disclosed improvement prevents rotation of the boss relative to the block by means of structural configurations on the mating surfaces of the block and boss. A second improvement prevents the boss from being drawn through the block beyond a desired point by means of a stop. An additional embodiment of the second improvement prevents the nut from traveling on the boss in the direction of a first end beyond a desired point by means of a stop. A third improvement enhances gripping of the block with a wrench by means of a polygonal surface configuration extending along the periphery of the block from its' second end.

  • Patent number: 5390823
Abstract: An Oil Filter Punch is a hand tool for draining vehicular oil filters. The tool separates into two assemblies: a Valve and Handle segment; and a Punch and Drain Tube segment. A User may obtain Punch and Drain Tubes of different lengths. The purpose of this segmentation is to allow a User to attach the Punch and Drain Tube with the most suitable length for each filter access problem. The Punch is placed against the lowest point of an installed oil filter. Using simple arm strength or a rubber mallet, the tool is driven through the sheetmetal housing and interior partition of the oil filter. Once the tool has penetrated the two sheetmetal surfaces, friction between the tool and the two sheetmetal surfaces holds the tool suspended from the oil filter. With the filter punctured, oil drains through the cavity of the tool to the low end where it is checked by a valve.

  • Patent number: 5386748
Abstract: This tool, fitted with an ordinary oil filter socket, is slipped over an installed vehicular oil filter. Using an ordinary socket wrench attached to the base of this tool, the oil filter is unscrewed, breaking the seal between it and its' mounting fixture. Once the seal is broken, oil discharges down the outside of the oil filter, and is confined in the Oil Filter Cup. The oil filter and oil discharge remain in the Oil Filter Cup during the process of removing the filter from its mounting fixture. Once removed, the oil filter and the Oil Filter Cup can be drained into a suitable container.

  • Patent number: 5299714
Abstract: The sharp end of this tool, fitted with an ordinary oil filter socket is centered against the bottom of an installed vehicular oil filter. Using an ordinary socket wrench attached to the other end of this tool, as a handle, the sharp end is pushed through the thin sheetmetal housing and interior partition of the oil filter. Once this tool has punctured the two sheetmetal surfaces, friction between: the tool and the two sheetmetal surfaces; and the ordinary oil filter socket and the exterior of the oil filter, holds the tool suspended from the oil filter. Once punctured, the oil filter drains through the hollow interior of this tool to the low end, where the flow is checked by a simple valve. To drain the oil filter and the tool, the valve is simply opened and the contents flow into a suitable container. After the flow has stopped: the valve is closed (to avoid drips); an ordinary socket wrench reattached to the tool; and the oil filter is removed in the customary fashion, less oil streaming down your arm.
