  • Publication number: 20100267978
Abstract: A stable magnet having a high Tc is provided. The stable magnet is synthesized from an at least one ion of a metal from a metal-containing precursor and molecules of an organic compound in a metal to organic ratio of at least about 1 ion to 1 organic molecule and as much as 10 or more ions to 1 organic molecule. The metal-containing precursor provides at least one ion having a valency lower than its maximum valency state. The organic molecules are selected from a group of organic compounds having a reduction potential suitable to accept at least one electron from the metal ion and an at least one functional group that is able to coordinate with the metal ion.

  • Patent number: 7638587
Abstract: The present disclosure concerns embodiments of a method of synthesizing polymers using verdazyl agents selected for their property of being moderately unstable free radicals. In one embodiment of the invention a method of synthesizing free standing polymers from suitably selected polymerizable subunits, such as monomers, is provided. In another embodiment of the invention a combination for the synthesis of free standing polymers from suitably selected polymerizable subunits using moderately unstable verdazyls is provided. Using moderately unstable verdazyls permits lower reaction temperatures and faster reaction times, while yielding polymers with low polydispersity.

  • Publication number: 20060018198
Abstract: Methods and apparatus determine if an underwater intruder passes under a protective boundary. A sonar sensor system comprises a plurality of sonar sensor modules that are spaced on a protective boundary. A sonar sensor module comprises a sonar transducer (sonar array) that is characterized by an omni-directional radiation pattern that may overlap an omni-directional radiation pattern of an adjacent sonar sensor module transducer. The sonar sensor module collects sonar data such as range information of the target in relation to time. A central processor obtains the sonar data from each sonar module through a telemetry link. The central processor processes the sonar data from the plurality of sonar sensor modules in order to determine an estimated path of the target and may determine if the target should be considered as a threatening underwater intruder from a calculated threat level estimate based on this data.

  • Publication number: 20050252149
Abstract: Novel free-standing open-span building frames for building construction and their use. The frames are assembled from base plates, upright posts, post-joist-rafter connectors, and a joist. Each base plate is a steel plate having an upper surface to which is welded the lower end of a steel post connector. The steel plates anchor bolt holes therethrough on each side of the post connector. The building has a steel reinforced concrete foundation with anchor bolts extending through the anchor bolt holes of each base plate, each base plate being secured to the anchor bolts with nuts. Each post has a lower end bolted to the respective steel post connector of the first and second base plate. Each post-joist-rafter connector comprises a post connector, a joist connector and a rafter connector. The first post has an upper end bolted to the post connector of the first post-joist-rafter connector, and the second post has an upper end bolted to the post connector of the second post-joist-rafter connector.

  • Publication number: 20050076470
Abstract: A caster includes a yoke having a yoke leg with a yoke leg axle opening through the yoke leg. A wheel having a hub and a hub axle opening through the hub is attached to the yoke leg with an axle bolt. A thread guard is located between the hub and the yoke leg. The thread guard has a disk-shaped body with a thread guard axle opening through the body for receiving the axle bolt. The thread guard further includes an outer surface facing toward the yoke leg and an inner surface facing toward the hub, and the outer surface includes a raised ridge extending away from the body. The ridge substantially surrounds and conforms to the shape of the yoke leg. The ridge preferably extends from the body past the outer surface of the yoke leg.
