Patent number: 10088613Abstract: An imaging system for sensing light in an area of high optical contrast is disclosed. In some implementations, the imaging system is for monitoring a welding operation, whereby a photochromic filter is used to reduce the intensity of the light observed from the welding arc. The imaging system includes a light source whereby light from the light source activates the photochromic filter. Thus, the opacity of the photochromic filter depends on the intensity of the light from the light source.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2016Date of Patent: October 2, 2018Assignee: Weld Camera, LLCInventor: Gary J. Patent number: 5711470Abstract: Method and apparatus for guiding a strip traveling along a selected path past a first location on the path and then past a second location on the path, which method and apparatus comprise correcting the camber of the strip at the first location toward a first guide point, sensing the amount of correction at the first location, correcting the camber of the strip at the second location toward a second guide point, sensing the amount of correction at the second location and adjusting the first guide point based upon the relationship between the amount of correction at the first and second locations. In addition, there is provided an improvement in a strip guiding system for adjusting the phase lag between spaced guiding locations based upon a variable length of strip between the locations.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1994Date of Patent: January 27, 1998Assignee: The North American Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Gary J. Patent number: 5580033Abstract: A bellows type air spring having a circular lobed body member with an inner an outer rubberized fabric reinforcing ply and a bead ring at each end. The turn up portion at each end of the fabric layers is wrapped around the bead ring with the turn up portion of the inner ply extending axially inwardly from the bead ring a substantial distance beyond the end of the turn up portion of the outer ply on both ends of the spring to provide longer flex life and prevent premature cracking of the body member in the areas of the end bead rings. The manufacturing method involves the use of an inner fabric ply that is substantially longer in the axial direction than the outer ply instead of using both inner plies of the same axial length.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1995Date of Patent: December 3, 1996Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventors: Thomas E. Burkley, Robert C. Schisler, Gary J. Thompson

Patent number: 5354992Abstract: A system for creating a position correcting error signal indicative of the lateral displacement of the center of a strip from a control position for the center of a nearly flat strip having a width and first and second generally parallel edges, as the generally flat strip moves along a given feed line past a given location, where the error signal creating device including means for detecting the orthogonally projectable, one dimensional lateral position of the first edge of said moving strip at said given location, means for detecting the orthogonally projectable, one dimensional lateral position of the second edge of said moving strip at said given location.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1993Date of Patent: October 11, 1994Assignee: The North American Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Gary J. Thompson, Thomas Tillander, David E. Harris

Patent number: 5255088Abstract: A configuration or system of lenses for use in an arc welding environment variably filters light so that the dramatic contrasts of light present in the welding area are reduced for better remote viewing. A photochromic lens forms a negative image of the welding area. The negative image of the photochromic lens serves as a variable density optical filter to reduce the brightness of the image incident upon the photochromic lens. A first lens initially gathers and focusses the light upon the photochromic lens. Subsequent lenses further prepare the image for camera reception by eliminating ultraviolet (UV) light, by eliminating light at spectral lines, and/or by enhancing the depth of field of the image.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1992Date of Patent: October 19, 1993Assignee: Arc Machines, Inc.Inventor: Gary J. Patent number: 4762342Abstract: A manifold form assembly has a front page and a back page, with each page having at least one image-receiving area disposed thereon. The original front page is disposed on one side of a first sheet and the original back page is disposed on the other side of the first sheet. The first sheet is movable between a first position in which the original front page is exposed for completion and a second position in which the original back page is exposed for completion. A pressure sensitive image-transferring system is provided integral with the assembly to transfer pressure-created images formed on the front and back page image-receiving areas. Duplicate front and back pages receive images transferred by the image-transferring system. A stub connects the original pages, the image-transferring system, and the duplicate pages into an integral form assembly. In one embodiment, a set of carbons transfer the pressure-created images from the original front sheet to the duplicate front sheets.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1987Date of Patent: August 9, 1988Inventor: Gary J. Thompson

Patent number: 4715620Abstract: A manifold form assembly has a front page and a back page, with each page having image-receiving areas disposed thereon. The front page image-receiving areas are non-overlapping with the back page image-receiving areas. A pressure-sensitive image-transferring system is provided integral with the assembly to transfer pressure-created images formed on the front and back page image-receiving areas. Duplicate front and back pages receive images transferred by the image-transferring system. A stub connects the original pages, the image-transferring system, and the duplicate pages into an integral form assembly.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1986Date of Patent: December 29, 1987Inventor: Gary J. Patent number: 4561043Abstract: A light display is disclosed herein for decorative purposes including a light source emitting light rays through a dichroic filter for removing undesired color and infrared rays followed by introducing the filter rays into a selected, polished end of a light conducting rod or mirrored tube. Selected peripheral areas of the rod or tube are etched or apertured to permit exit of light therethrough at predetermined locations along the length of the rod or tube. The end of the rod or tube opposite from its polished end is provided with a mirror for reflecting light rays back through the rod or tube.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1984Date of Patent: December 24, 1985Inventor: Gary J. Patent number: 4445351Abstract: A fluidized bed die container holding a lubricant compound receives material which is to be reduced in a die. Pressurized air entering the bed beneath the lubricant agitates the particles to fluidize them so that contact is continually assured between the lubricant and the material, and the pressurized air is used to help cool the die.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1982Date of Patent: May 1, 1984Assignee: Morgan Construction CompanyInventors: Gary J. Thompson, C. H. Carey
