  • Patent number: 8175825
Abstract: Accurate power usage for a portable information handling system is provided using input power measurement circuitry. A calibration step is performed when the portable information handling system is powered down and charging. The calibration step includes obtaining a battery charge measurement from a battery, and then using this measurement to calibrate an input power measurement made with respect to power being provided by the AC/DC adapter. Known losses from other sources within the system can also be considered in the auto-calibration of the input power measurement. Subsequently, when the portable information handling system is powered on and operating on power provided by the AC/DC adapter, power usage can be determined and reported using the auto-calibrated input power measurement as an indication of the power usage of the portable information handling system.

  • Patent number: 7546418
Abstract: A system and method for managing power consumption and data integrity in a computer system is disclosed in which the a memory controller of the computer system records in a buffer the addresses of writes to system memory that occur during the period that the processor is in a low power state. When the processor exits the low power state, the processor invalidates in its internal cache those cache lines that correspond to the addresses recorded in the buffer.

  • Patent number: 6988214
Abstract: A computer system having a logic device capable of accepting various chipset controllers and interfacing them with a personal computer processor, the logic device capable of placing the processor into a deep sleep state so that the processor can perform power state transitions. The power state transitions place the processor into a battery optimizing mode or a performance optimizing mode. The logic device allows chipset controllers that may or may not have the capability to perform power state transitions to interface with the processor. The logic device either passes power transition signals through to the processor from the chipset controller or performs the power state transitions. Various chipset and chipset controllers may therefore interface with a processor and are able to switch between battery optimized and performance optimized modes.

  • Patent number: 6901523
Abstract: An information handling system includes a microprocessor, a storage, a plurality of devices operatively connected to said microprocessor and a run voltage rail, a sleep regulator, and a power management controller. The plurality of devices are further operatively connected to a run voltage power rail to operate in a run mode in response to a run voltage Vrun applied to the run voltage power rail. The sleep regulator provides a sleep voltage Vsleep output. Lastly, the power management controller determines a power savings sleep voltage for a run/sleep mode power management condition and controls the sleep power voltage output of the sleep regulator according to the power savings sleep voltage. The power management controller is further configured to enable select ones of the plurality of devices to be operatively disconnected from the Vrun power rail and connected to the sleep voltage Vsleep output, wherein devices operatively connected to the sleep voltage Vsleep output operate in a sleep power mode.
