    Abstract: A hair styling tool or curling iron includes a handle portion and a styling portion. The handle portion houses a torsion spring. The styling portion includes a hair engaging member adapted to be biased toward the styling portion by the torsion spring. A spring door is releasably and/or removably connected to the handle portion and is configured to cover and at least partially secure the torsion spring within the handle portion. The torsion spring is not mechanically connected to the handle portion so that releasing and/or removing of the spring door from the handle portion allows for removal and replacement of the torsion spring.

The bristle portion includes a primary heating element configured to be heated by the associated heating assembly. A bristle base heated member is mounted to an outer periphery of the heating element. The bristle base heated member has a secondary heating element configured to be heated by the primary heating element. A non-conductive, heat insulating bristle spacer is secured between the bristle base heated member and the heating element. A bristle bar is secured by the bristle spacer and has bristles extending through the bristle spacer and the bristle base heated member. The bristle spacer is configured to thermally isolate the bristle bar from both the heating element and the bristle base heated member.

    Abstract: A hair appliance in which the axis of air flow through the appliance is generally in a parallel first direction through one end of the appliance and the handle and then exits the hair appliance in a direction perpendicular to the first direction. The air flow through the handle is not heated. Thus, special heat resistance and/or heat shielding materials are not required in the handle. In this manner, the handle may be sized in a manner that ergonomically fits a user's hand. Further, moisture may be provided from the hair appliance. The moisture may be directed towards a user's hair by a negative pressure that results from the heated air flows proximate the moisture region. In one embodiment, the moisture generation unit may be an ultrasonic vibration unit using a piezoelectric vibrator. In one embodiment, the hair styling appliance may be a paddle dryer.

    Abstract: Exemplary embodiments of hair styling appliances having a multi-function actuator are provided herein. In general, the disclosed embodiments of hair styling appliances may include a multi-function actuator configured for adjusting settings of one or more hair appliance variables. In one embodiment, the multi-function actuator may include at least two separate actuators, which are assembled together on the hair styling appliance to look like one component, yet are configured to be actuated independently of one another. In one embodiment, the multi-function actuator may be ergonomically positioned on the hair styling appliance for easily accessible manipulation and actuation with the user's thumb. In one embodiment, the multi-function actuator may comprise a push button and dial combination. In one embodiment, the push button may be used to select temperature and/or time, and the dial may be used to adjust the temperature and/or time to a desired setting.

The first nozzle arm and the second nozzle arm each include a plurality of air vents, which are configured to direct air flow within the slot region simultaneously from multiple opposing directions. In some embodiments, the hair dryer is further provided with a moveable component, which is selectively configurable to direct the air flow within the slot region simultaneously from multiple opposing directions, or to redirect the air flow in a primarily forward direction out a front end of the split nozzle.
