  • Publication number: 20090090454
Abstract: A method to join pipe is disclosed using a curable one or two part adhesive composition comprising an effective amount of a boron containing initiator compound such as an organoborate, a stabilized organoborane complex, or combinations thereof; one or more monomers, oligomers, polymers or mixtures thereof having olefinic unsaturation which is capable of polymerization by free radical polymerization; and optionally a decomplexing agent. An especially preferred organoborane is one where a tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atom is bonded to the organoborane to prepare an amido-borate. In those embodiments where the nitrogen is quaternary, the quaternary nitrogen portion of the amido-borate is the cationic counter ion for the borate anion portion of the compound to which the quaternary nitrogen atom is bonded.

  • Patent number: 6962966
Abstract: Monofunctional polyfluorooxetane oligomers, polymers, and co-polymers are prepared by the cationic polymerization of fluorooxetane monomers with a monoalcohol. In addition to serving as an initiator, the monoalcohol can also serve as a solvent for the fluorooxetane or other monomers to produce oligomers, polymers, or copolymers having low cyclic content. Suitable comonomers generally include various cyclic ethers. The polyfluorooxetane oligomer, polymer, or copolymer having a single hydroxyl end group can be functionalized with a variety of compounds so as to yield a functional end group such as an acrylate, a methacrylate, an allylic, an amine, etc., with the functionalized oligomer or polymer being suitable for use in radiation curable or thermal curable coating compositions. These functionalized polymers can be copolymerized and cured to provide improvements in wetting and surface properties.

  • Patent number: 4526811
Abstract: An electrically conductive adhesive composition effective for repairing discontinuities in the electrically conducting metal lines of rear window defoggers is disclosed. The composition comprises (a) an acrylic ester polymer resin (b) a metallic pigment and (c) an organic pigment. The composition is applied as a solid solution to the interrupted section of the metal line to bridge the gap in the line and the solvent is evaporated leaving an electrically conductive bridging layer which restores electrical flow to the line. The T.sub.g of the acrylic ester polymer resin should be such that the composition does not run, sag or otherwise lose its structural integrity when the metal line is heated to an operating temperature.
