Abstract: A telecommunications system includes a base, a plurality of handsets, and a status database for storing status information. Each handset is localized to the base. The status information may be that of a first handset of the plurality of handsets. The base broadcasts to the plurality of handsets a status broadcast that includes the status information.

Abstract: A cordless telephone base unit having a dynamically changeable cellular telephone adapter and partially reconfigurable software is provided. The software includes a static portion containing core application software, and a dynamic portion containing reconfigurable driver software for interfacing with an external device such as a cellular telephone. The driver software can be downloaded from a removable cellular telephone adapter. The core software and the driver software each contain interface portions at fixed locations. The interface portions provide for transparent interaction between core application and driver software.

An enhanced and refined hash table permits access to the remote information in order or according to a search key with significant reduction in the memory requirements on the local device even though the remote information is not sorted. Scrolling through the remote data structure without accessing any unnecessary record on the remote device and hence reducing scroll response time is also achieved.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting a signaling tone within a communications channel, such as a telephone line, is presented. The energy level of the communications channel signal is measured at the frequency of the signaling tone and at one or more frequencies that are integer divisors of the signaling tone (i.e. at one or more subharmonics). The subharmonic energies are evaluated in determining whether the signaling tone is present. The technique can be implemented using a plurality of resonators and a comparator.
