  • Publication number: 20100037531
Abstract: An abrasive composition including vitreous binding material; abrasive material; and a dimensional stabilizing additive (DSA), present in an amount that is from about 1 to about 40 volume percent of the abrasive composition, wherein the dimensionally stabilizing additive is inert to the binding material, and has a Mohs hardness of between 4 and 9, and wherein the abrasive composition does not include hollow sphere fillers. Also included is a method of making an abrasive articles, articles formed thereby; and articles formed from the abrasive compositions.

  • Publication number: 20080187769
Abstract: A method of making metal-coated superabrasive material comprises heating components comprising: superabrasive material, a metal-containing compound that comprises a metal capable of forming at least one of a carbide, boride or nitride, and a reducing agent capable of reducing the metal-containing compound. The components are heated in an inert atmosphere to sufficient temperature and for sufficient time to form metal-coated superabrasive material. The metal-coated superabrasive material is useful in the manufacture of various superabrasive tools.

  • Patent number: 6123744
Abstract: Bonded abrasive articles are described wherein a metal boride modified, lead-free vitreous matrix binds abrasive grains, such abrasive articles demonstrate improved performance over vitreous bonded abrasive articles with known vitreous matrices. Vitreous bond precursor materials are described including admixtures comprising lead-free vitreous precursor material and powder of metal boride(s), and admixtures comprising metal boride modified, lead-free vitreous particles. Methods are described for producing vitreous bonded abrasive articles having abrasive grains bound by metal boride modified, lead-free vitreous matrices.
