Patent number: 11363830Abstract: A capture unit for use with an antimicrobial application unit may include an upstream filter and a downstream filter. The upstream filter may be positioned to receive effluent from the application unit and to filter solid components from the effluent. The resultant upstream effluent filtrate may then be passed downstream to the downstream filter. The downstream filter may be used to filter an antimicrobial component from the upstream effluent filtrate and the resultant downstream effluent filtrate may be suitable for disposal as wastewater discharge. The antimicrobial is preferably a quaternary ammonium compound, is more preferably an alkylpyridinium chloride, and is most preferably cetylpyridinium chloride.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 2020Date of Patent: June 21, 2022Assignee: SAFE FOODS CORPORATIONInventors: Justin Massey, Tim Yeaman, Gary Nolen, Kelly Beers, Joe Rheingans

Publication number: 20080224066Abstract: A device for exposure of a fluid to radiation comprising a tube (20) through which a fluid is caused to flow , a plurality of radiation sources (14), and a plurality of reflectors (48) to cause the radiation to be focused on the fluid.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 3, 2003Publication date: September 18, 2008Applicant: SAFE FOODS CORPORATIONInventors: Gary Nolen, Joe Rheingans

Publication number: 20070025897Abstract: An antimicrobial application system is disclosed, comprising an antimicrobial application unit and a recycle unit. An initial, dilute antimicrobial composition is prepared. The composition is provided to the antimicrobial application unit and applied to work pieces, such as raw poultry. After application to the work pieces, the composition is returned to the recycle tank. The concentration of the antimicrobial in the recycle tank is monitored, and additional antimicrobial is automatically added if the concentration of the antimicrobial in the composition falls below a desired amount. The composition is periodically diverted to a capture tank, and the antimicrobial is selectively removed from the composition. The removed antimicrobial and remaining composition are then disposed of in appropriate manners. The antimicrobial is preferably a quaternary ammonium compound, is more preferably an alkylpyridinium chloride, and is most preferably cetylpyridinium chloride.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 21, 2006Publication date: February 1, 2007Applicant: Safe Foods CorporationInventors: Joe Rheingans, Kelly Beers, Chris Hawk, Gary Nolen, Omar Trujillo, Luke Wright

Patent number: 6742720Abstract: A spray application system is disclosed having an enclosure with a spray chamber, a spray applicator within the chamber, and a liquid barrier such as a sprayed water curtain, within the chamber, upstream or downstream of the spray applicator. The water is preferably sprayed downward to create a vacuum for drawing the treating substance downward into the liquid barrier. The liquid barrier preferably does not contact the workpieces that instead pass overhead. Independent pressure gauges and flow regulators may be used for the upstream liquid barrier, the downstream liquid barrier, and the spray applicator. The chamber may have a roof section that is secured to a beam or other process line support, and the walls may be suspended from the roof section. The roof section may have an opening running across its length to allow hangers from an overhead processing line to pass through the chamber.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2001Date of Patent: June 1, 2004Assignee: Safe Foods Corp.Inventor: Gary Nolen

Publication number: 20020088874Abstract: A spray application system is disclosed having an enclosure with a spray chamber a spray applicator within the chamber and at least one liquid barrier within the chamber, disposed upstream or downstream of the spray applicator. The liquid barrier may take the form of a sprayed water curtain. The water forming the liquid barrier is preferably sprayed in a downward direction to create a vacuum for drawing the treating substance downward into the liquid barrier. Each liquid barrier is also preferably disposed so that it does not contact the workpieces as the workpieces pass through the chamber, the workpieces instead passing above each liquid barrier. Independent pressure gauges and flow regulators may be used for the upstream liquid barrier the downstream liquid barrier and the spray applicator.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 19, 2001Publication date: July 11, 2002Inventor: Gary Nolen
