  • Patent number: 7214415
Abstract: Monolayer packages comprised of an oxygen scavenging composition suitable for direct contact with package contents and recycle with other polyester bottles are disclosed. The oxygen scavenging composition is comprised of a modified copolymer which is comprised of predominantly polyester segments and an oxygen scavenging amount of oxygen scavenging segments. The polyester segments comprise segments derived from typical bottling and packaging polyesters such as PET and PEN. Use of these oxygen scavenging copolymers in bottles provides a clear and rigid monolayer bottle similar in appearance to unmodified polyester bottles. In a series of preferred embodiments, bottles fabricated with the oxygen scavenging copolymers of this invention are over 99 wt % PET and contain less than 50 ppb of extractable components.

  • Patent number: 7215616
Abstract: Because of the reduced track pitch of DVD compared to that of CD, the running-OPC procedures (ROPC) currently used in CD-RW systems do not function well in recordable and rewritable DVD systems. The present invention proposes to use the reflected signal from the writing spot itself instead of the satellite spots used in the CD-RW running-OPC procedure. This is realized by sampling the RF-signal reflected from the writing spot at the high-reflective crystalline level. This sampled signal (?) is fed into a power control loop (a so-called ?-loop) to keep it at a constant level.

  • Patent number: 7214108
Abstract: A shearable fastener has a threaded shank adapted for engagement with a threaded bore and a head portion formed for engagement with a drive tool, the shank being formed with a series of axially separated weakenings defining a series of shear planes. The weakenings are formed such that the applied torque necessary to cause the shank to shear increases progressively from the shear plane furthest from the head portion to the shear plane nearest the head portion. The weakenings are holes, grooves or slits formed in the shank and the radius at the bottom of the holes, grooves or slits is varied to produce or contribute to the increase in shear torque.

  • Patent number: 7216205
Abstract: Transferring cache line ownership between processors in a shared memory multi-processor computer system. A request for ownership of a cache line is sent from a requesting processor to a memory unit. The memory unit receives the request and determines which one of a plurality of processors other than the requesting processor has ownership of the requested cache line. The memory sends an ownership recall to that processor. In response to the ownership recall, the other processor sends the requested cache line to the requesting processor, which may send a response to the memory unit to confirm receipt of the requested cache line. The other processor may optionally send a response to the memory unit to confirm that the other processor has sent the requested cache line to the requesting processor. A copy of the data for the requested cache line may, under some circumstances, also be sent to the memory unit by the other processor as part of the response.

  • Patent number: 7215507
Abstract: Systems and apparatus are described for modifying fluid flow in a hard disk drive system to reduce cross-track motion. The systems and methods provide advantages because they include at least one flow modification element. In some embodiments, the flow modification system comprises a set of approximately parallel combs occupying a portion of the space present in between the disks in the hard disk drive system. The combs change the flow pattern of the fluid and act as a momentum channeling mechanism relative to the actuator assembly and suspension assemblies resulting in a considerable reduction in track misregistration error. Various embodiments of the invention include baffle-integrated combs, fixture-integrated combs, contoured enclosure surfaces, and enclosure attached combs.

  • Patent number: 7216220
Abstract: A microprocessor including memory storage into which ISA customer code routines can be stored after having been decoded into their machine-native microinstructions. The customer code store is not subject to eviction and the like, as a cache memory would be. ISA level code can specify a routine for storage into the customer code store, at a time prior to its execution. The customer code store thus serves as a write-once execute-many library of pre-decoded routines which ISA level applications can subsequently use, permitting a system manufacturer to create a highly customized and optimized system.

  • Patent number: 7215250
Abstract: A reusable EAS tag that is detachable from an article by placing the EAS tag in proximity to a detaching device is provided. The tag includes an energy coupler, a micro-actuator, and a clamping mechanism. The detaching device transmits a signal to the EAS tag to signal detachment, which is received by the energy coupler. The energy coupler converts the energy from the transmitted signal to electrical energy and delivers the electrical energy to the actuator. The actuator converts the electrical energy to mechanical energy to actuate the clamping mechanism and release the tag's locking or clamping mechanism for removal of the tag from the article to which it is attached.

  • Patent number: 7216149
Abstract: A method and system for gathering enriched web server activity data in a global communications network in which requested information files are cached at a plurality of network devices. With the prevalence of web caching on the Internet, the origin web servers do not serve the majority of requests for web site content. A single pixel clear Graphics Image Format (GIF) request is added to the HyperText Markup Language (HTML) source file for a web page. Appended to the GIF request is a Common Gateway Interface (CGI) string of data that contains enhanced web activity data information, including the number of images (“hits”) that have to be retrieved by a client browser to build the web page, and the referring identifier that resulted in access to the web page. The single pixel clear GIF request is not cacheable and results in the request being transmitted to the origin web server when the client browser interprets the HTML file.

  • Patent number: 7213798
Abstract: A submerged vehicle extraction method employing a specifically designed apparatus known as the submerged vehicle extractor. The primary purpose of the submerged vehicle extractor is to facilitate the transferring of a vehicle that has broken through the frozen surface of a body of water from the water to the solid upper surface of the ice during the vehicle recovery process. This is done through the use of an elongate frame having a center pivot point and a winch. The sunken vehicle engages the extractor through the use of the winch and is then moved from the water to ice level via the extractors teeter totter type movement. Additionally, the use of the present invention also minimizes the stresses placed on the vehicle during the extraction process as the entire weight of the vehicle in this stressful operation is carried by the present invention through the frame of the vehicle.
