  • Publication number: 20070200314
Abstract: A vehicle body structure includes longitudinally extending elements such as roof side rail outer and inner members, a reinforcement member and a gusset that are part of a side impact energy management system for vehicles that include a sunroof. A laterally extending cross member is connected to the roof side rail members, and the roof side rail members are connected to an upper portion of an approximately vertical B-pillar. The cross-member is connected to the roof side rail members approximately perpendicular to the B-pillar, but longitudinally offset from the B-pillar. The reinforcement member extends between the roof side rail members to the cross-member.

  • Patent number: 7213874
Abstract: A vehicle roof structure is disclosed that includes a front roof rail, a pair of front roof rail braces and a pair of A-pillars. First ends of the front roof rail braces are fixedly coupled to opposite ends of the front roof rail. The pair of A-pillars each has an inner A-pillar panel. Second ends of the front roof rail braces are bonded to a connection area of a respective one of the inner A-pillar panels such that the opposite ends of the front roof rail are spaced inwardly from the inner A-pillar panels by the front roof rail braces. The front roof rail extends perpendicularly from the A-pillars via the front roof rail braces. Further, each of the inner A-pillar panels has a generally constant overall transverse cross sectional shape across the connection areas of the inner A-pillar panels.

  • Patent number: 7165806
Abstract: A vehicle roof structure is disclosed that includes a center roof rail, a pair of center roof rail braces and a pair of inner side roof rail panels. The center roof rail supports a mid-portion of a vehicle roof. The pair of center roof rail braces has first and second ends with the first end of the center roof rail braces being directly bonded to opposite free ends of the center roof rail. The pair of inner side roof rail panels is each configured to form a portion of a vehicle side roof rail on opposite lateral sides of the vehicle roof structure. An inboard side of each of the inner side roof rail panels is directly bonded to the second ends of the center roof rail braces, respectively, without bonding the center roof rail to the inner side roof rail panels.

  • Patent number: 7029060
Abstract: A roof ditch molding structure is provided with a body member having a drainage groove that receives a roof ditch molding which is preferably coupled thereto by a double sided tape formed of thermally cured urethane. The roof ditch molding has a rigid carrier member and a resilient cover member that substantially covers an outer surface of the carrier member. The rigid carrier member has a first transverse free end disposed between first and second vertical portions of the body member, and a second transverse free end disposed between the first transverse free end and the second vertical portion of the body member. The first transverse free end has a step portion extending substantially toward the second vertical portion of the body member. The cover member has first and second lip portions extending from the first and second transverse free ends of the carrier member, respectively, to form seals between the roof ditch molding and the drainage groove.

  • Patent number: 7004535
Abstract: A roof ditch molding fastener is provided that comprises a molding retaining portion and a base portion. The molding retaining portion is configured and arranged to releasably retain a roof ditch molding to a vehicle body. The base portion includes a first longitudinal contacting surface and a second longitudinal contacting surface. The second longitudinal contacting surface extends substantially parallel to the first longitudinal contacting surface, and is laterally spaced from the first longitudinal contacting surface to form an uninterrupted air space between the first and second longitudinal contacting surfaces. Thus, the roof ditch molding fastener is easily positioned in place with respect to the vehicle body by using the first and second longitudinal contacting surfaces. Moreover, since the uninterrupted space is formed between the first and second longitudinal surfaces, a corrosion of a portion between the roof ditch molding fastener and the vehicle body can be prevented.
