Abstract: A shoe construction is described in which a molded cup is provided with a flange extending outwardly from a top edge of the molded cup. A lasting margin of the upper of the shoe is wrapped around the outwardly extending flange and terminates on an exterior surface of the molded cup. The shoe is constructed such that the wearer's foot rests on an upper surface of a base of the molded cup. The outwardly extending flange is located some vertical distance above the bottom of the wearer's foot. The outwardly extending flange improves lateral stability by resisting the torque created by the horizontal component of the wearer's weight acting against a friction or other force acting at the bottom of the shoe. The variable location of the outwardly extending flange also provides a variety of aesthetic designs for the shoe.

Abstract: A shoe having a uniquely shaped platform along the rear peripheral edge of the insole, which is constructed of a rigid backpart material. By combining it with a construction of a specially molded outflange counter and using a sturdy stitched lasting construction fastening securely the outward flange of the counter with the specially lasted molded leather upper together with the outward extension of the specially shaped insole platform, a stable support system is formed to control the lateral and longitudinal orientation of the foot when walking. The forepart of the shoe may be of moccasin. Strobel modified welt-type or other construction which provides varying degrees of flexbility.

Abstract: An improved sole for footwear comprising an insole unit having an axially extending surface and a peripheral rib projecting downwardly from the surface for stitching the insole to the upper of the footwear, a midsole attached to the insole, the insole and midsole defining the top and bottom surfaces of a cavity, the cavity being bounded about its periphery by the rib, and an outsole attached to the midsole, the improvement comprising an orthotic element mounted in the cavity, the orthotic element comprising an axially extending flexible support layer.
