  • Patent number: 9482216
Abstract: In various embodiments, a surgical cassette, configured to engage peristaltic pump rollers, may include two or more pump segments between a sheet and a substrate coupled to the sheet. The two or more pump segments on the cassette may produce additional flow (e.g., approximately twice the flow for two segments as opposed to one) than if the cassette had only one pump segment engaging the roller. Further, in some embodiments, the two or more pump segments and rollers on the roller head may be configured to provide a flow profile in which a peak of a pulse from a first pump segment is at least partially out of phase with a peak of a pulse from the second pump segment. The combined resultant flow may then have a flow profile with pulsation amplitudes that are smaller than the individual pump segment pulsation amplitudes.

  • Publication number: 20150297405
Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and method for hydraulic pumps are disclosed. Particularly, hydraulic pumps for ophthalmic surgical procedures are disclosed. Hydraulic pumps within the scope of the disclosure may include an aspiration pump. An example aspiration pump may include first and second hydraulic cylinders and a plurality of one-way valves that are operable to permit fluid flow into a first part of a hydraulic cylinder responsive to movement of a piston within the hydraulic cylinder in a first direction and operable to permit fluid to flow out of the hydraulic cylinder responsive to movement of the piston in a second direction opposite the first direction. The aspiration pump may be attached to a housing of a hand piece, or a portion of the aspiration pump may be received into the housing of the hand piece.

  • Patent number: 8939927
Abstract: An assembly for a phacoemulsification surgical system includes an aspiration system arranged to aspirate fluid from a surgical site. The aspiration system includes an aspiration path within the phacoemulsification hand piece and includes a flexible small bore aspiration tubing in fluid communication with the aspiration path. The small bore aspiration tubing has a nominal inner diameter smaller than about 0.050 inch to reduce levels of occlusion surge within the surgical system. A high-output, peristaltic pump communicates with the small bore aspiration tubing and is operable to create a flow through the small bore aspiration tubing.
