  • Patent number: 6620180
Abstract: A laryngeal cutting blade has an outer blade assembly including a tubular member having a bend closer to a proximal portion than a distal end, a hollow inner blade assembly rotatably received in the outer blade assembly for mounting to a powered handpiece and having a flexible portion disposed adjacent the bend and a suction passage extending through the inner blade assembly to permit aspiration of cut tissue, the angled configuration of the laryngeal cutting blade and toothed and smooth profile cutting ends therefore are particularly effective for debulking large, firm lesions and for delicate shaving of superficial lesions of the vocal cords after removal of bulk mass.

  • Publication number: 20030152523
Abstract: A dry particulate pharmaceutical composition for pulmonary administration is prepared by spray-drying a hydrophobic active agent (e.g. declomethasone dipropionate) with a small quantity of pharmaceutically acceptable hydrophilic polymer (e.g. poly (vinyl) alcohol). This mitigates aggregation of the particles of active agent, which otherwise limits the desirable find particles dose available.

Abstract: A dermabrasion instrument includes an outer member and an inner member rotatably disposed in the outer member with an abrading member of the inner member exposed from the outer member. An aspirating passage in the abrading member establishes communication with an aspirating channel of the inner member from externally of the abrading member so that debris from abrasion of the skin by the abrading member is evacuated through the inner member. The outer member may include a shield disposed over the abrading member to contain the debris. The instrument may include an irrigating port for discharging irrigating fluid adjacent the abrading member. A dermabrasion instrument assembly includes an abrading instrument releasably coupled to a powered surgical handpiece. • Patent number: 6357927
Abstract: An assembly to effect adjustments to the end play, or preloading, of a bearing set. The adjusting assembly utilizes a threaded bearing cup body and a correspondingly threaded adjusting ring. The bearing cup body abuts the outer race of the bearing and the adjusting ring is threaded onto the bearing cup body and abuts a fixed or stationary housing surface. The adjusting ring is rotated to adjust bearing preload and provide proper spacing. The bearing cap is then placed to lock the bearing adjusting assembly in place.

  • Publication number: 20020010126
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a method for the treatment and prophylaxis of inflammatory conditions. The present invention is predicated in part on the identification of cells of the monocyte/macrophage lineage being critical for inflammation and, in particular, chronic inflammation. In accordance with the present invention, it is proposed that the reduction in levels of monocyte/macrophage-type cells and/or a reduction in the production of inflammatory and pro-inflammatory mediators by these cells, especially locally, is effective in reducing inflammatory conditions. The present invention further provides animal models useful for screening for reducing levels of monocyte/macrophage-type cells and/or reducing the production of inflammatory and pro-inflammatory mediators of these cells.
