  • Publication number: 20030137145
Abstract: An article comprising a substrate having a first portion of transparent plastic and/or cellulosic material, and a security device provided at a second position on the article spaced laterally from the transparent first portion, wherein the transparent first portion includes verification means to verify and/or inspect the security device when the first and second portions of the article are brought into register with one another. The article, which may comprise a label and/or tag, may be used as means for authenticating the origin of high value products.

  • Patent number: 6514584
Abstract: The invention is a laminate structure made by coating at least one side of a substrate with a laminating adhesive, bringing a coated side of said substrate into contact with a second substrate to form a multi-layer film, and treating said multi-layer film with a free radical initiator, wherein said laminating adhesive is the reaction product of a multifunctional acrylate, an aminofunctional silane, and an ethylenically unsaturated acid, optionally dissolved in a solvent, wherein the multifunctional acrylate has a molecular weight of from 100 to 3000.

  • Patent number: 6505779
Abstract: Security document (1) with security indicia (21) for preventing unauthorised reproduction, the security indicia being detectable in transmitted light, wherein the security indicia are located within the bounds of a security pattern (20) acting to visually conceal the security pattern in reflected light. The security pattern may be formed of one or more elements (25) and may have a complexity selected to enable the concealment of the security indicia (21).

  • Publication number: 20020192482
Abstract: The present invention relates to an aqueous coating composition for a plastic film which comprises: (a) from 10 to 60% (by dry weight) of a water-dispersible copolymer comprising: (a1) from 1 to 30% by weight, preferably from 3 to 10% by weight, of monomers selected from the group consisting of N-alkyl(meth)acrylamide and N-hydroxyalkyl(meth)acrylamide; and (a2) from 70 to 99% by weight, preferably 90 to 97% by weight, of monomers selected from the group consisting of (meth)acrylic acid, alkyl(meth)acrylate, wherein the alkyl group contains straight or branched chains having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms; (b) from 3 to 40% (by dry weight) preferably more than 5% of a crosslinker for the functional groups of the monomers of groups (a1); (c) from 13 to 85% (by dry weight) of ink receptive particles. This composition imparts computer imprintable characteristics to a plastic film.

  • Patent number: 6403169
Abstract: One aspect of the present invention provides a method of producing a security document, including the steps of: (a) forming a sheet-like substrate of plastics material having first and second opposing surfaces, (b) coating a first layer of polymer material containing magnetic particles on the first opposing surface, (c) melting at least a portion of the first layer such that the magnetic particles can orient under the influence of a magnetic field, (d) applying the magnetic field so as to form a magnetic watermark, and (e) allowing the first layer portion to cool so as to fix the orientation of the magnetic particles

  • Patent number: 6399171
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of laminating two substrates by coating at least one side of a substrate with a laminating adhesive, bringing a coated side of said substrate into contact with a second substrate to form a three layer film, and treating said three layer film with a free radical initiator, wherein said laminating adhesive is formed by mixing an ethylenically unsaturated acid and a polyamine.
