  • Patent number: 5611613
Abstract: A key operated door lock assembly comprising an operator assembly rotatable from a door open to a door closed position, including an operator, a plug in the operator having a key receiving opening, a support assembly for the operator assembly secured to the door including a light source operable for a predetermined period of time, and a first light pipe having a first end for receiving light from the light source and a second light transmitting end. Means for remotely operating said light source for a period of time selected so that a person can insert a key into the key receiving opening and rotate the operator assembly from the door closed position to the door open position. The operator assembly further includes a second light pipe having an exposed light transmitting portion and a light receiving portion, and means for supporting the second light pipe so that the light transmitting portion of the second light pipe is adjacent the key receiving opening.

  • Patent number: 5513509
Abstract: A key 20 is formed with a blade 22 having six bits 30, 32, 34, 36, 38 and 40 formed along one edge of the blade. A shoulder 42 is formed on a trailing end 28 of blade 22 and is positioned to cooperate with a front face 82 of a plug 50 of a five-pin cylinder lock 46 to locate bits 30, 32, 34, 36 and 38 adjacent five respective sets of tumbler pins in the operation of the lock. Key 20 can also be used with a six-pin cylinder lock 110. Shoulder 42 is moved through a slot 130 in a front face 134 of a plug 114 of lock 110 and engages a stop surface 132 whereby bits 30, 32, 34, 36, 38 and 40 are properly positioned adjacent six respective sets of tumbler pins in the operation of the lock.

  • Patent number: 5364139
Abstract: A door latch assembly (10) includes a latch bolt mechanism (60) having a bolt (62) movable between a door latching position and a door unlatching position. Assembly (10) further includes handle lever (16) and (36) at opposite ends of a square spindle 64. An adapter 68 is attached to spindle 64 and engages cam surfaces 158 and 160 of a slide 142 within mechanism (60) to facilitate movement of bolt 62 when either of the levers (16) or (36) are operated.A locking plate 44 is attached to spindle 64 for movement therewith and is formed with a peripheral notch 138. A locking dog 48 is selectively positionable within notch 138 to prevent rotation of spindle 64 and movement of bolt 62 when an attempt is made to operate either of the levers 16 or 36.A stop plate 230 is also mounted on spindle 64 for rotation therewith and is positioned to engage fixed stems 28 to preclude attempted movement of either of the levers 16 or 36 in an upward direction but permits downward movement thereof to facilitate movement of bolt 62.

  • Patent number: 5335950
Abstract: A lockset 20 includes an interior knob 24 mounted on an insert 26 and an exterior knob 62 mounted on an insert 64. A rose liner 30 and a cover 58 are mounted on the insert and provide a spaced bearing support for an interior assembly including knob 24. A rose liner 70 is mounted on insert 64 and combines with a security shield 146 and bearing 148 to provide a spaced bearing support for an exterior assembly including knob 62. Knob 62 is assembled with insert 64 through dimples 164 and projections 168 to allow slippage of the knob on the insert upon the application of excessive force without destruction of elements of lockset 20.

  • Patent number: 4725085
Abstract: A novel rack-pinion forms an outside operator of either a single latchbolt or a double latchbolt with the pinion rotating a latch operator of at least a single latchbolt to move the bolt between extended and retracted positions. The rack is shiftable between pinion engaging and nonengaging positions as determined by an inside operator control button, this being the sole means of shifting in the simplist, single latchbolt form. When it is a single latchbolt form, a lock may be added to the outside operator for also shifting the rack-pinion construction. In more complex, double latchbolt form, the second bolt, preferably a deadbolt, may have an outside operator formed by a lock or an inside operator formed by a turnpiece of both. With the outside lock of the second bolt construction, a yoke may connect that to the rack-pinion construction of the first latchbolt for shifting the rack by the second latchbolt outside lock.

  • Patent number: 4516798
Abstract: Retracting motion is imparted through door knobs or levers into a transverse half-round spindle which, in turn, longitudinally moves a retractor slide. The retractor slide is forwardly pivotally connected through a link to a cam having its rearward end pivotal on the frame and its forward end engaged with a main bolt. The main bolt is a spring latch bolt connected to the cam by a slideable unlocking slide movably enclosed by a U-shaped bolt extension with the unlocking slide also actionable with a locking dog controlled by an auxiliary bolt. In normal operation the main bolt is extended within a strike plate and the auxiliary bolt is retracted bearing against the strike plate so that rearward movement rearwardly pivots the cam which withdraws the main bolt through rearward abutment of the unlocking slide which bears rearwardly against the bolt extension, the auxiliary bolt also being withdrawn due to the unlocking slide ultimately acting against the locking dog and the auxiliary bolt.

  • Patent number: 4427224
Abstract: A bolt is movable in a door-mounted casing between extended and retracted positions relative to the door edge by a latch operating mechanism including a transverse half-round spindle. The spindle actuates the latch operating mechanism by engagement with a longitudinally forward engagement surface of an insert assembled with the latch operating mechanism in spindle forward backset position, the motion being transferred longitudinally rearwardly by the insert into the latch operating mechanism and then forwardly to the bolt. The insert is in motion transferring connection with rearward projections of the latch operating mechanism retained in assembly partially by a casing rearward extension and partially by a casing telescoping removable sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4143897
Abstract: A doorlatch knob assembly has a knob insert of a hollow knob projecting through a door mounted rose secured rotatable by a drive washer which, in turn, receives the outer end of a doorlatch connected spindle projecting outwardly through the drive washer drivingly engaged therewith, through the insert and into the hollow knob. A fire resistant shield is closely telescoped and engaged with the insert receiving the spindle outer end therein so as to close off the previous opening from the hollow knob inwardly and preserve the integrity of the spindle retainment of the doorlatch mechanism against flame penetration upon heat destruction of the knob. The shield may have formation engaging the spindle outer end to aid the drive washer for rotatably driving the spindle. Where a turnbutton shaft is involved, it will also be formed of fire resistant material and will be closely telescoped by the outer end of the shield, otherwise the outer end of the shield will be closed.
