  • Patent number: 6322348
Abstract: A molding apparatus is disclosed which includes a first support having spaced apart vertical posts, and a first set of mold halves positioned between the vertical posts. A second support is provided having positioned thereon a second set of mold halves. A clamp bar is positioned on the vertical posts adjacent the second support so as to extend across the mold halves of the second set of mold halves. A grip member secured to the first support is movable between an engage and disengage position, wherein in the engage position a clamp engages the grip member and the clamp bar so as to drive the respective sets of mold halves into sealing contact with each other, so as to form two mold cavities. In the disengage position, the grip member is clear of the clamp so as to permit the clamp to also act as a device to separate the supports when the molding process is over. Methods of using this equipment in an automated rotational molding process are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6267917
Abstract: The present invention includes a mold apparatus for facilitating replacement of rotatable molds therein. First and second frames are provided forming a plurality of mold cells and each mold includes an upper and a lower mold section. The upper mold section is removably coupled to the upper frame, while the lower mold section is removably coupled to the lower frame. Using this arrangement, a mold may be removed by detaching all connections between it and the frames, while maintaining the frames closed. Similarly, a mold may be inserted into a mold cell and connected to the frames while maintaining the frames closed. The removal and insertion operations may be performed radially or axially, depending on frame configuration.

  • Patent number: 5869109
Abstract: A molding apparatus has a first support with two vertical posts, a first set of two mold halves, and a grip positioned thereon. There is also a second support having positioned thereon a second set of two mold halves. A clamp bar is positioned over the two supports in a vertically movable manner so as to retain the sets of mold halves together to form two mold cavities. The clamp bar interfits and rides along the vertical posts and so as to simultaneously clamp multiple molds closed. There is also a lock for locking the clamp bar to the vertical posts, thus clamping the molds closed without the need for nuts or bolts. A hydraulic clamp is used to assist in moving the mold halves into a tight sealing position.

  • Patent number: 5529481
Abstract: A mold is disclosed for producing two unjoined molded items in a single void during a single molding process. A divider ring is provided along the joining seam between mold halves. The ring has a central aperture and is formed of a stick resistant material.

  • Patent number: 5306564
Abstract: There is disclosed a spring-loaded shock absorbing system for use with molding devices to minimize wear due to repeated closing of mold portions. A helical spring which separates the mold portions must be overcome to join the mold portions. The spring is compressed between a platform's shoulder surface of adjustable height and a ledge flaring outward from a spring retainer. The shock absorber is used in conjunction with a clamping system.

  • Patent number: 5061165
Abstract: A tool for holding threaded inserts in a rotational mold includes a stud which projects within the mold cavity and which has a diameter substantially equal to the minor diameter of the threads of the insert. A spring loaded detent on the stud is received by the internal threads of the insert for holding the insert firmly against the inner wall of the mold yet permitting simple removal of the molded part. A retractor mechanism for using the tool with threaded inserts placed across the axis of removal of the molded part, is also taught.
