  • Patent number: 9829084
Abstract: An integrated gear assembly includes a conjoined carrier assembly coupling a reducing gear set to a differential gear set. This includes first, second and third coaxial sun gears. The first sun gear meshingly engages first gear elements of stepped pinion gears of the reducing gear set. The second sun gear meshingly engages third pinion gears of the differential gear set. The third sun gear meshingly engages fourth pinion gears of the differential gear set. The third pinion gears of the differential gear set axially overlap second gear elements of the stepped pinion gears of the reducing gear set. The fourth pinion gears of the differential gear set axially overlap the third pinion gears of the differential gear set.

  • Patent number: 9518656
Abstract: A vehicle and a locking assembly are disclosed. The locking assembly includes a pawl rotatable about a pivot axis between an engaged position and a disengaged position. The pawl is adapted to engage the ring gear when in the engaged position for preventing movement of the ring gear. The locking assembly further includes an actuator selectively actuated to move the pawl to the engaged position. Additionally, the locking assembly includes a biasing mechanism engaging the pawl to continuously bias the pawl toward the disengaged position. The pawl includes a first tooth and a second tooth spaced from each other to define a gap therebetween. The first tooth and the second tooth are adapted to trap a tooth of the ring gear in the gap when the pawl is in the engaged position for preventing rotation of the ring gear.

  • Patent number: 9381799
Abstract: An internal combustion engine for a hybrid vehicle includes an engine block, a flywheel, and a grounding clutch coupled to the block. The block defines a bore along a first longitudinal axis. The flywheel is rotatable about the axis and includes a spline. The spline has a first tooth and a second tooth spaced apart from the first tooth to define a gap therebetween. The clutch is configured for preventing rotation of the flywheel about the first axis and includes a locking pin. The pin is transitionable between a locked position in which the pin is disposed within the gap and abuts the first and second teeth such that the flywheel does not rotate, and an unlocked position in which the pin does not abut the first and second teeth such that the flywheel rotates. A hybrid vehicle is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9278618
Abstract: A powertrain can provide propulsive power to a vehicle and includes an electric motor/generator including a motor housing, and a final drive unit partially disposed in the motor housing. The final drive unit includes a gear case coupled to the motor housing. The final drive unit further includes a differential disposed in the gear case. The differential includes a differential housing. The final drive unit further includes a first final drive bearing disposed around the differential housing. The first final drive bearing is supported by the bearing support structure connected to the motor housing. The final drive unit further includes a second final drive bearing disposed around the differential housing. The second final drive bearing is supported by the gear case.

  • Patent number: 9156348
Abstract: An electric drive for a vehicle includes an electric motor and a planetary gear assembly including a sun gear drivingly connected to a rotor of the electric motor. A ring gear of the planetary gear assembly is connected to a brake that can be released to provide the system with a disconnect. A first transfer gear is connected to the planetary carrier. A second transfer gear is drivingly engaged with the first transfer gear and rotatable about a second axis offset from an axis of the electric motor. A differential is drivingly connected to the second transfer gear and provides drive torque to a pair of drive shafts along the second axis.
