  • Patent number: 6389340
Abstract: A self-contained device for capturing video imagery in response to a triggering event may include a mirror and be mounted to a vehicle windshield in place of a conventional rear-view mirror. The device includes a housing in which the electronics and related elements of the invention are contained. These elements include one or more data sensors, at least one of which is an image sensor,. Also included are a data sensor circuit and a capture circuit. The data sensor circuit responds to the triggering event, and may include data sensors coupled to vehicle systems such as a speedometer, tachometer, brake, turn signals or the like, or other data sensors such as an accelerometer or a vehicle position sensor. The triggering event may be, for example, a sudden change in acceleration indicative of an impending collision, or it may be a change in the signal provided by any such data sensor, including the image sensor.

  • Publication number: 20010005804
Abstract: An event recorder (10) mounted in a vehicle (20) includes sensors, including image sensor (60), sound sensor (90), location sensor (95) , and vehicle performance sensors, and a capture circuit for storing sensed data signals around a triggering event. A CPU and program memory (74) are programmed to perform a validation function, such as a one-way hash function, on the captured sensor signal while transferring it to persistent memory device (100) so as to derive a validation value which is also stored in persistent memory device (100). To later verify that the data have not be tampered with, the stored data are operated on by the same validation function so as to derive an audit validation value, the audit validation value is compared with the validation value for equality and the outcome of the comparison is indicated.

  • Patent number: 5994791
Abstract: A portable controlled lighting system comprising at least one lamp connected to an operating circuit for operating the lamp and a control circuit coupled to the operating circuit for controlling the luminous flux of the lamp is disclosed. A battery pack for providing electrical power to the operating circuit is also provided, together with a control means for adjusting the luminous flux of the lamp by the control circuit. The control means comprises a first adjustment means for controlling the luminous flux of the lamp and provides a predetermined rate of increase of the luminous flux until a predetermined flux level is achieved.
