Abstract: The present invention comprises a system and method useful for organization of information adapted for use in a computer system. Information stored on a local or remote data store may be organized and, hence, retrieved, by providing access to raw data to a computer system user, providing a user interface on the computer being used by the computer system user, allowing a description of the raw data to be captured in a user searchable database accessible to the computer system user, and allowing the computer system user to use the user interface to selectively retrieve raw data using the description captured in the database. Abstract: The present invention comprises a system useful for organization of information adapted for use in a computer system. In an exemplary embodiment, authorities and summarized information of an authority may be created for later access. Typically, raw data are captured into an authority table from which they can be selectively retrieved by a user. Users may also summarize at least a portion of the raw data; examine one or more elements in a user taxonomy table for an appropriate taxonomy element to associate with the summarization and/or authority and create a new element in the user taxonomy table for an appropriate taxonomy element to associate with the summarization or authority if an appropriate element is not already present in the taxonomy table.
