Abstract: Systems and methods are described for downloading audio signals into a digital telephone to update and replace a conventional ringer tone. The source of the audio signal can be from any analog audio sound source, such as a radio, PC sound card, MP3 player, CD or DVD player, etc. The audio signal can be fed through an audio cable into a handset headset jack that is already available in most digital telephones, or into a specialized audio jack incorporated into the base (of a cordless telephone). The audio signal may be comprised of a song or speech. The audio signal can be stored in a specialized memory for storing audio signals without requiring encoding the signal prior to storage, or it can be stored in any conventional memory arrangement. For a cordless telephone, the audio signal may be stored in the handset or in the base unit.

Text messages sent from the personal computer to the handset are displayed on a text screen on the handset. Text message sent from the handset to the personal computer are displayed on a text window on the personal computer. Messages can be passed from the personal computer to a base unit of the cordless device using an analog or a digital interface. In addition, stereo music is transmitted from a stereo source to the handset through the base unit.

Abstract: Systems and methods for wireless communications between a cellular telephone and a landline telephone. A system includes a cellular telephone in communication with a cordless telephone base station. The cordless telephone base station includes a BLUETOOTH radio transceiver, and the cellular telephone includes a BLUETOOTH radio transceiver, so that the cellular telephone can communicate with the base station using BLUETOOTH communications. The cordless telephone base station includes a cordless radio transceiver, and a cordless handset that includes a cordless radio transceivers. The cordless handset can communicate with the cordless telephone base station using cordless radio frequency communications. The BLUETOOTH radio transceiver and the cordless radio transceiver of the cordless telephone base station are coupled so that the cordless handsets can communicate with the cellular telephone.

Abstract: A modem adapter is provided to adapt a modem to operate with a telephone system. The modem adapter includes a conductor detector, a voltage generator, and a dial-tone generator. The conductor detector is configured to detect live conductors on a telephone jack. The voltage generator is configured to generate an on-hook line voltage comparable to that normally expected by the modem and to deliver the generated on-hook line voltage to the modem. The dial-tone generator is configured to generate and deliver to the modem a first dial tone different from the second dial tone delivered by a telephone system to which the modem is attempting communication. A method for adapting a modem to a telephone system is also provided.

Preferably, the table top conferencing device preferably includes a cradle that accepts the handset which is used to power the conferencing device. The handset is wirelessly connected to a base station using an RF link. Alternatively, the handset is a wireless telephone. A hardwired communications link between the headset and conferencing device establishes a two-way audio connection between the conferencing device and base station.

In a preferred embodiment, the device includes a circuit that is configured to draw current from the PSTN source during a first condition and from the battery source during a second condition. Preferably, the circuit is defaulted to draw current from the battery source. The first condition can be associated with an off-hook condition. The second condition can be associated with an on-hook condition.

Each of the retrieved telephone number includes all digits of the dial string. The retrieved telephone numbers are then displayed on the display device. After the user selects one of the displayed telephone numbers, the system performs an action with the telephone number. For example, the system can be configured to dial the selected telephone number.

Particularly, sliding a cover to open the device moves first and second sliding racks attached on opposite sides of the sliding cover. The racks drive a first gear and a second gear, respectively. The first gear drives an antenna rack. An antenna is attached to the antenna rack, such that driving an antenna rack extends or retracts the cover.

Abstract: Methods and systems for forwarding calls associated with a first telephone to a second telephone are disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, one of the first telephone and the second telephone is configured to send an instruction to a first telephone network associated with the first telephone to forward calls intended for the first telephone to a destination telephone associated with a telephone network different from the first telephone network. Preferably, the second telephone is associated with a public switched telephone network. Preferably, the destination telephone is the second telephone. A processor associated with one of the first telephone and the second telephone is configured to sense the presence of the first telephone within the vicinity of the second telephone. When the first telephone is within the vicinity, the processor sends the instruction.

The computing device includes a device controller, a device memory, and a device physical medium interface. The cordless telephone includes a telephone controller, a telephone memory, and a telephone physical medium interface. The computing device and the cordless telephone are coupled via the device physical medium interface and the telephone medium interface to provide for sharing mutual resources between the computing device and cordless telephone.
