  • Publication number: 20230391837
Abstract: The present disclosure relates in part to methods of treating, preventing, and/or ameliorating SARS-CoV-2 infection and/or related inflammatory syndromes by administration of a Maackia amurensis seed lectin (MASL). MASL has a strong affinity for sialic acid modified proteins and may be used as an antiviral agent. This lectin targets the ACE2 receptor, decreases ACE2 expression and glycosylation, suppresses binding of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, and decreases expression of inflammatory mediators by oral epithelial cells that cause ARDS in COVID-19 patients.

  • Patent number: 9448195
Abstract: Electrophysiological recording systems for analysis of cultured cells include an recording device and a housing for supporting the electrophysiological recording device. The device has a porous membrane with top and bottom surfaces and a plurality of pores extending between the top and bottom surfaces. The porous membrane defines a first cell culture region disposed on the top surface and an opposed second cell culture region disposed on the bottom surface. The electrophysiological recording device has a plurality of electrodes positioned on the porous membrane in between a first insulation layer and a second insulation layer. The plurality of electrodes extend to the first cell culture region of the porous membrane. Recording ends of the electrodes measure electrical properties of cells cultured within the first and second cell culture regions, while the contact ends of the electrodes are positioned in electrical communication with data acquisition equipment.

  • Patent number: 8114593
Abstract: Using gene expression analysis, specific biomarker genes and gene products have been identified which are activated in transformed cells, but suppressed in nontransformed cells; or suppressed in transformed cells, but activated in transformed cells affected by Contact Normalization. Thus, the present invention features compositions and methods for detecting, diagnosing, treating and prognosing cancer.
