Abstract: A novel climbing device for use in combination with a climbing spike, the climbing spike includes an anchor portion capable of being driven into a wooden object and a horizontal portion capable of being used as a step by a climber. The climbing device includes a body, a tread surface formed on a top portion of the body, a receiver fixed to the body and operative to receive the horizontal portion of the climbing spike, and a stabilizer fixed to the body and operative to limit relative movement between the body and the horizontal portion of the climbing spike. In a particular embodiment, the climbing device includes the climbing spike. In a more particular embodiment, the climbing device can be in either one of a first position or a second position. In the first position, the rotation of the body about the horizontal portion of the climbing spike is prevented. In the second position, the body is rotatable about the horizontal portion of the climbing spike.
