  • Patent number: 8535209
Abstract: A method and apparatus for making a stepped end on a tube of flexible material includes a tube slitting station having a slitting tool with double edge slitting blades penetrating through the tube to provide respective slits beside a first panel and beside a second panel, respectively; a first trimming station trimming a first panel of the tube to a first shortened length, a second trimming station trimming the side gussets to a second length, wherein the second length is longer than the first shortened length of the first panel; and an adhesive applying station applying adhesive on the tube above and below a fold line across the tube, wherein the tube is adapted to be folded along the fold line, and the adhesive material is adapted to form an adhesive to adhesive seal above and below the fold line while the tube is folded to provide a closed stepped end for a bag.

  • Patent number: 8240915
Abstract: A polymeric woven bag has a first panel and a second panel and an open end of the bag to be pinched closed. A first layer of heat activated adhesive material is on a portion of the bag to form an adhesive-to-adhesive seal by contact with a second layer of heat activated adhesive material on a portion of the bag. second panel, wherein a chemical family of the adhesive layers comprises, distillates, petroleum and ethanamine or naphthene components, and wherein the first adhesive layer and the second adhesive layer have respective heat activation temperatures below the softening point temperature of the polymeric bag material.

  • Publication number: 20110103721
Abstract: A bag and a method for making a bag, wherein the bag has a first panel, a second panel and side gussets, wherein openings extend through the first panel and through respective first sections of side gussets adjacent to the first panel, a sealing flap portion has adhesive material thereon, further adhesive material on the first panel, portions of the further adhesive material passing through the openings and onto respective second sections of the side gussets adjacent to the second panel, the bag is foldable to form a folded first panel, and the further adhesive material being folded with the folded first panel to provide an adhesive-to-adhesive seal, wherein a portion of the seal extends into the openings to adhere to the portions of the further adhesive material on the respective second sections of the side gussets.

  • Publication number: 20110019944
Abstract: A system including multiple bags each having a first adhesive material on a first panel, and second adhesive material on a stepped construction of the bag, and a third section of each bag being free of adhesive, further including a hot air manifold along which the bag is conveyed after the bag has been filled with contents and closed, which heats the first adhesive material and the second adhesive material to their adhesive states; a section of the hot air manifold along which the third section free of adhesive is conveyed, which minimizes adhesive contamination; a blade to bias the stepped construction of the bag to follow along the manifold; and a trailing end of the blade to fold the bag along its third section without displacing or expelling adhesive from the third section, which minimizes adhesive contamination of surfaces of the bag.

  • Publication number: 20070091171
Abstract: A method and apparatus for making pouches is disclosed. It includes continuously moving the film through an intake section and then through a shuttle section. The film passes a plurality of successive sealing stations in the shuttle section, and while the film moves continuously, the film is at times generally stationary with respect to the sealing stations and at times moving with respect to the sealing stations. A plurality of successive seals is applied with the plurality of sealing stations, while the film is generally stationary with respect to the sealing stations. The film is then moved through an output section.

  • Publication number: 20060040815
Abstract: A pouch machine includes a controller and first and second modules. Each module has a converting station and the electrical equipment needed to operate the station. The controller controls the converting stations and operating parameters are provided from one module to the next. Each module may be a processing zone and include a registration sensor and a drawroll responsive to the respective registration sensor. Accumulators may be provided in each processing zone. An edge sensor may be provided that senses the edge of the film in one or more modules. The draw roll assembly is mounted on a moveable frame, and is angled in response to the location of the sensed edge. Multiple such assemblies may be included on a single machine.
