  • Publication number: 20130080482
Abstract: The virtual supercomputer is an apparatus, system and method for generating information processing solutions to complex and/or high-demand/high-performance computing problems, without the need for costly, dedicated hardware supercomputers, and in a manner far more efficient than simple grid or multiprocessor network approaches. The virtual supercomputer consists of a reconfigurable virtual hardware processor, an associated operating system, and a set of operations and procedures that allow the architecture of the system to be easily tailored and adapted to specific problems or classes of problems in a way that such tailored solutions will perform on a variety of hardware architectures, while retaining the benefits of a tailored solution that is designed to exploit the specific and often changing information processing features and demands of the problem at hand.

  • Patent number: 8405413
Abstract: A critical path monitor having selectable data output modes provides additional information about critical path delay variation. A pulse is propagated through a synthesized path representing a critical path in a functional logic circuit and a synthesized path delay is measured by a monitoring circuit that detects the arrival of an edge of the pulse at the output of the synthesized delay. The measured delay is provided as a real-time output and a processed result of the measured delay is processed according to a data output mode selected from multiple selectable output modes, thereby providing different information describing the real-time data about critical path delay, such as a range of edge positions corresponding to a variation of the critical path delay.

  • Patent number: 8407515
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transparently handling recurring correctable errors and uncorrectable errors in a mirrored memory system prevents costly system shutdowns for correctable memory errors or system failures from uncorrectable memory errors. When a high number of correctable errors are detected for a given memory location, a memory relocation mechanism in the hypervisor moves the data associated with the memory location to an alternate physical memory location transparently to the partition such that the partition has no knowledge that the physical memory actualizing the memory location has been changed. When a correctable error occurs, the memory relocation mechanism uses data from a partner mirrored memory block as a data source for the memory block with the uncorrectable error and then relocates the data to a newly allocated memory block to replace the memory block with the uncorrectable error.

  • Patent number: 8407531
Abstract: A technique for collecting and correlating locking data collects and correlates information on a plurality of programs waiting on or holding a plurality of resources in a multi-computer database system. The technique identifies a program executing on one computer of the multi-computer database system that is waiting on a resource. The technique also identifies a second program, executing on another computer, as the ultimate holder of the resource. An operator display screen displays information corresponding to the first program and the second program. The operator display screen may be switched between a multiline display format and a single line display format. The collection, identification, and display of the locking data is performed periodically, to allow the operator to discover locking problems and take a desired corrective action.

  • Patent number: 8404558
Abstract: In a preferred method of formation embodiment, a metal foil or film is obtained or formed with micro-holes. The foil is anodized to form metal oxide. One or more self-patterned metal electrodes are automatically formed and buried in the metal oxide created by the anodization process. The electrodes form in a closed circumference around each microcavity in a plane(s) transverse to the microcavity axis, and can be electrically isolated or connected. Preferred embodiments provide inexpensive microplasma device electrode structures and a fabrication method for realizing microplasma arrays that are lightweight and scalable to large areas. Electrodes buried in metal oxide and complex patterns of electrodes can also be formed without reference to microplasma devices—that is, for general electrical circuitry.

  • Patent number: 8407460
Abstract: Software program or application can determine if the storage device it was launched from is connected to the host computer system on an internal bus or an external bus. The ability of a software application to determine from where it and the operating system was launched allows it to perform a plurality of actions based on the launch location such as limiting the functionality of an application depending on its launch location. If a software company does not want its software to be installed or executed from an external drive or executed on multiple computers then it can limit the users ability to moved the software from one computer to another on a portable drive connected through a USB or IEEE-1394 port.

  • Patent number: 8404780
Abstract: The adhesion between a low surface energy (i.e., nonpolar) material, e.g., a polyolefin such as polyethylene, and a high surface energy (i.e., polar) material, e.g., a polyester, polyurethane, polycarbonate or polylactic acid, is promoted by blending with the nonpolar material typically from 15 to less than 50 wt % of a diol-based thermoplastic polyurethane (d-TPU), e.g., a polydiene diol-based TPU, based on the combined weight of the nonpolar material and the d-TPU. The promoted adhesion allows for the effective painting, printing, over-molding or HF-welding of a nonpolar substrate, e.g., a polyolefin film, with a polar coating, e.g., a paint, ink, etc. Aqueous dispersions can also be made from the blend of nonpolar material and d-TPU.

  • Patent number: 8402685
Abstract: A waterfowl decoy apparatus is disclosed for attracting a waterfowl. The waterfowl decoy apparatus comprises a blade having a generally sinusoidal cross-section for defining a first concave portion, a second concave portion and an inflection axis. A dark pigment is on a first side of the blade. A light pigment is on a second side of the blade. A first end of a hanger is secured to an object. A swivel couples a second end of the hanger to a top edge of the blade for rotating the blade relative to the hanger. The flow of air contacts the blade for rotating the blade. The dark pigment and the light pigment create an oscillating image upon rotating of the blade for attracting the waterfowl.
