  • Patent number: 8090171
Abstract: An image data subtraction system suitable for use in Angiography or other medical procedure enhances vessel visualization. The system comprises an imaging system for acquiring, during a medical procedure, data representing multiple temporally sequential individual images of vessels of a portion of patient anatomy. The sequential individual images encompass introduction of a contrast agent. An image processor automatically processes the data representing the multiple temporally sequential individual images to identify a first image indicating presence of the contrast agent and a second image preceding the first image by comparing a difference between measures representative of luminance content of the first and second image, with a threshold. The second image is substantially exclusive of an indication of presence of the contrast agent.

  • Patent number: 8089951
Abstract: Timing information is transmitted over a network by sending time-stamped packets between a transmitter and receiver. The time-stamped packets are used to compute an estimate of the frequency deviation between the transmitter clock and the receiver clock. The local receiver clock is periodically updated to match the transmitter clock based on the estimate, which is preferably a least squares estimate. A multiple window approach is employed to increase update speed.

  • Patent number: 8087355
Abstract: A method of treating an on-press developable lithographic printing plate with a treating solution after imagewise exposure and before on-press development is described. The plate comprises on a substrate a photosensitive layer developable with ink and/or fountain solution and capable of hardening upon exposure to a radiation. The plate is imagewise exposed with a radiation, overall treated with a treating solution to cause at least one chemical or physical change in the photosensitive layer or on the substrate surface, and then on-press developed with ink and/or fountain solution. Such a treatment allows improvement on the performance of the imagewise exposed plate by, for example, improving the white light stability, forming visible imaging, increasing the hydrophilicity of the substrate, or increasing the developability of the photosensitive layer.

  • Patent number: 8090612
Abstract: Methods, machines, systems and machine-readable instructions for producing marketing items are described. In one aspect, a user is prompted to specify campaign parameters, including one or more campaign topics, defining a scope of the campaign. The user is prompted to specify for each of the one or more campaign topics a corresponding set of one or more attributes of intended recipients of the marketing campaign. The one or more specified campaign topics are associated to respective sets of targeted recipients selected from a database of records of potential recipients based on mappings of the respective sets of recipient attributes to the campaign topics and the specified campaign parameters defining the scope of the marketing campaign. For each of the targeted recipients, a respective marketing item containing a respective set of one or more contents matched to the campaign topic associated to the targeted recipient is composed.

  • Patent number: 8087938
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for computerized training, monitoring, certification or re-certification of human raters in clinical trials. The invention provides an interactive computerized interview that can be compared scores obtained by human raters to monitor and train clinical raters on a continuing basis in order to reduce rater drift and variance during clinical trials. Remediation can be automatically flagged or provided to improve a deviating rater's performance. Computerized assessment of symptom severity is provided without the need for human clinical raters. The system and method enable screening of prospective patients for inclusion or exclusion from a clinical trial by automatically obtaining computerized ratings of symptom severity.

  • Patent number: 8087885
Abstract: Improved annular components and improved methods for assembling annular components into a turbine engine are described with respect to an axial compressor having a plurality of annular compressor rotor airfoil assemblies (120) as an example. Each compressor rotor airfoil assembly comprises an annular rotor portion (122), a spacer portion (124) extending axially therefrom and a plurality of airfoils (52) extending radially therefrom. The plurality of airfoils may be integrally formed with the annular portion. The compressor rotor airfoil assemblies are stacked sequentially on a center-tie (134) or outer circumferential tie. The spacer portion of one compressor rotor airfoil assembly (120a) abuts the annular rotor portion of the adjacent compressor rotor airfoil assembly (120b) to retain one another on the center-tied outer circumferential tie. By stacking the compressor rotor airfoil assemblies sequentially and then retaining them, the typical split cases, flanges and rotor bolts may be eliminated.

  • Patent number: 8088320
Abstract: Material and method for reducing creep in orthotics and prosthetics. Thermoplastic resin plies and fiber veil plies with a substantially porous structure composed of discontinuous fibers held together by small amounts of polymeric binder between the fiber contact points are consolidated under heat and pressure. This causes the resin to flow into the porous voids and the binder to dissociate from the contact points, producing a composite material with an embedded fiber veil remnant that retains the three dimensional structure of the original fiber veil. The various fibers can move freely with respect to one another at melt temperature, while the orientation of the fibers in the fiber veil remnant resists bending in all directions at lower temperatures. This composite material can then be vacuum thermoformed into at least one complex component of an orthotic device or prosthetic device, such as a complex component with a double horizon bend.

  • Patent number: 8087502
Abstract: An actuator shifts a selectable one-way clutch (SOWC) between a plurality of operating modes. A first spring has a preload compression that is equivalent to a first start pressure. A second spring, disposed adjacent to the first spring, has a preload compression that is equivalent to a second start pressure. A plunger movably contacts the first spring and a slide plate movably extends from the plunger. The slide plate engages the SOWC such that the SOWC shifts between the operating modes in response to movement of the slide plate. The first spring is compressible from beyond the preload compression to a first stop position as the pressure is increased from the first start pressure to a first stop pressure. The second spring is compressible from beyond the respective preload compression to a second stop position as the pressure is increased from the second start pressure to a second stop pressure.
