  • Patent number: 10739120
Abstract: An explosive separation joint system having an expandable tube containing a mild detonating fuse (MDF) in separable portions of the joint. The MDF extends into a detonation manifold at a first port, an end of the MDF having booster bonded thereto. An external initiating ordnance transfer line enters the manifold at an initiating ordnance (IO) port, has an IO end tip and provides a detonation impulse train where each detonating component is axially aligned within a passageway with the next detonating component. In embodiments, particular detonating components of the detonation train are fixed in place where other detonating components are movable. Each detonating component that is not in direct contact with a preceding detonating component in the detonation train is in direct linear access.

  • Patent number: 10736652
Abstract: A valvuloplasty catheter comprises a balloon or other expansible shell which carries a plurality of scoring elements, typically formed in an elastic, self-closing metal cage. The expansible shell and scoring elements are positioned inside an aortic or other cardiac valve, and the shell expanded to engage the scoring elements against stenotic material which covers the valve leaflets and valve annulus. The scoring elements uniformly distributed force to break up the stenotic material, and the cage further contributes to rapid balloon deflation allowing shortening of the treatment time.

  • Patent number: 10739651
Abstract: Used herein are two or more switchable variable birefringence liquid crystal devices, in combination with a passive retarder, to produce a device that switches between two retardation values. The device preserves the normal-incidence retardation in each of two voltage states over a broad range of incidence angles using a novel self-compensation scheme. According to one embodiment of this design, the retardation in the thickness direction remains zero in both the unenergized and fully energized states.

  • Patent number: 10739611
Abstract: A polarization conversion system separates light from an unpolarized image source into a first state of polarization (SOP) and an orthogonal second SOP, and directs the polarized light on first and second light paths. The SOP of light on only one of the light paths is transformed to an orthogonal state such that both light paths have the same SOP. A polarization modulator temporally modulates the light on the first and second light paths to first and second output states of polarization. First and second projection lenses direct light on the first and second light paths toward a projection screen to form substantially overlapping polarization encoded images. The polarization modulator may be located before or after the projection lenses. The polarization-encoded images may be viewed using eyewear with appropriate polarization filters.

  • Publication number: 20200252127
Abstract: A dual-mode imaging receiver (DMIR) can acquire and maintain SOA free-space optical communication (FSOC) links without a precision mechanical gimbal. Unlike other FSOC technologies, a DMIR can operate without precise spatial alignment and calibration of the transmitter's or receiver's spatial encoders (precision pointing) in static (fixed point to point) geometries. Instead, a DMIR uses electronic receive beam selection to acquire and track transmitters with coarse mechanical pointing and a single aperture. And because the DMIR can operate with just one aperture, it does not need a beacon at the transmitter since it does not transition from a wide field-of-view acquisition aperture to a narrow field-of-view detection and decoding aperture even in dynamic geometries.
