    Abstract: Biosynthetic melanin can capture fentanyl from aqueous environments. The captured fentanyl can be released by introducing the fentanyl-bound melanin to an acidic environment. In this way, fentanyl can capture melanin for subsequent detection/analysis, in addition to operating to remove fentanyl for decontamination.
