Abstract: A mat for providing traction between a vehicle wheel and a slippery road surface including a planar shaped rubber member providing with integrally molded downwardly extending cleats for engaging the road surface and an upper layer of carpet for frictional engagement by the vehicle wheel. The mat layer includes a retractable handle disposed within a recess formed in the member, the handle extending in a direction transverse to the direction of wheel travel for assisting the user in positioning the mat.
