  • Publication number: 20120142344
Abstract: Techniques for supporting location services with roaming are described. A method of supporting location services (LCS) for a mobile station roaming from a home network and communicating with a visited network includes receiving a domain name system (DNS) query at a DNS of the home network from a packet data serving node (PDSN) of the home network. The method also includes sending to the mobile station from the DNS of the home network an address of a serving position determining entity (S-PDE) in the visited network.

  • Patent number: 8185128
Abstract: Techniques for supporting location services with roaming are described. A mobile station interacts with a home mobile positioning center (H-MPC) in a home network for location services even when roaming. The mobile station communicates with a visited network for a data session and receives a request for its location. The mobile station sends first information (e.g., SID and NID) indicative of its current network location to the H-MPC. The H-MPC determines a serving mobile positioning center (S-MPC) in the visited network based on the first information. The S-MPC determines a serving position determining entity (S-PDE) in the visited network based on the first information. Depending on the selected positioning method, the H-MPC may receive an S-PDE address or a position estimate of the mobile station from the S-MPC and may forward this information to mobile station. The mobile station may communicate with the S-PDE for positioning using the S-PDE address.

  • Patent number: 8131290
Abstract: Techniques to support positioning of roaming mobile stations are described. A roaming mobile station communicates with a visited network and has a data connection to a home network. The mobile station sends a request for positioning assistance to a home position determining entity (H-PDE) in the home network. The H-PDE determines that base station almanac (BSA) data applicable for the mobile station is not locally available and sends a request for location information for the mobile station to a designated network entity. This entity may be a BSA server storing BSA data for different networks or a visited PDE (V-PDE) in the visited network. The H-PDE receives location information (e.g., BSA data, assistance data, and/or a position estimate for the mobile station) from the designated network entity and provides positioning assistance to the mobile station based on the received location information.

  • Publication number: 20090036146
Abstract: Techniques to support location services for a roaming mobile station are described. The mobile station may communicate with a serving mobile switching center (MSC) in a serving network. A roaming service provider (RSP) network may map an actual MSC identity (MSCID) of the serving MSC to a generic MSCID and may provide the generic MSCID to a home network. A home mobile positioning center (H-MPC) may map the generic MSCID to an Internet Protocol (IP) address of a mapping server within the RSP network and may send a location request message containing a mobile station identity (MSID) to the mapping server. The mapping server may determine a serving mobile positioning center (S-MPC) based on the MSID and may forward the message to the S-MPC. The mapping server may also receive a location response message from the S-MPC and may forward the message to the H-MPC.
