  • Patent number: 9955427
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for power optimization in e.g., a wireless mobile device. In one embodiment, the optimization is effected via intelligent idle mode current drain management. In an exemplary LTE cellular network context, the user equipment (UE) only powers on its transceiver for a subset of Discontinuous Reception (DRX) cycles based on e.g., the quality of the radio environment, power considerations, location, etc. For example, if a UE has not moved, and its radio reception quality is good, the UE is likely to successfully receive a paging notification (i.e., without multiple attempts). Consequently, the UE configures itself to receive only a single paging indication.

  • Patent number: 9953276
Abstract: The present disclosure describes methods and systems that monitor the utilization of computational resources. In one implementation, a system periodically measures the utilization of computational resources, determines an amount of computational-resource wastage, identifies the source of the wastage, and generates recommendations that reduce or eliminate the wastage. In some implementations, recommendations are generated based on a cost of the computational-resource wastage. The cost of computational-resource wastage can be determined from factors that include the cost of providing a computational resource, an amount of available computational resources, and the amount of actual computational-resource usage. Methods of presenting and modeling computational-resource usage and methods that associate an economic cost with resource wastage are presented.

  • Patent number: 9945956
Abstract: Techniques for GNSS positioning using three-dimensional (3D) building models are described. A processor of a mobile device can determine a lower bound of uncertainty for an estimated position of the mobile device. The processor can receive an estimated position from a GNSS receiver of the mobile device. The processor can acquire geographic feature data including 3D building models of buildings and other geographic features that are located near the estimated position and may reflect GNSS signals. The processor can then determine a lower bound of uncertainty of the estimated position, regardless of an estimated uncertainty provided by a GNSS estimator. The lower bound can be higher (e.g., have a greater error margin) than the uncertainty value provided by the GNSS estimator. The processor can then present the estimated position, in association with an error margin corresponding to the lower bound of uncertainty, on a map user interface of the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 9945872
Abstract: Cigarette smoking is a primary determinant of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which is the fourth leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States. Unique proteins associated with COPD capable of differentiating subjects likely to experience rapid (RPD) or slow (SLW) decline in lung function have been identified using comprehensive high-throughput proteomic approaches. Thirty peptides, which mapped to 21 unique proteins, were linearly associated with annualized rates of lung function decline among smokers with COPD characterized as having rapid or slow decline and smokers without COPD. Using three different statistical approaches to assess the data, the RPD and SLW groups are differentiated by 55 peptides, which mapped to 33 unique proteins. A number of the identified peptides are proteolytic fragments of proteins that are involved in the complement and/or coagulation systems, have anti-protease activity, or metabolic functions.

  • Publication number: 20180102947
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a technique for reduction of latency in network traffic data transmissions. The system parses an online document to determine a messaging identifier used to communicate over an asynchronous network-based communication channel with a content provider device. The system assembles a first instance of the online content item with the messaging identifier. An intermediary appliance located on the asynchronous network-based communication channel in between the first computing device and the content provider device intercepts data packets including the electronic message The system determines a quality of the asynchronous network-based communication channel. The system blocks insertion of the messaging identifier in a second instance of the online content item prior to transmission of the second instance of the online content item to a second computing device to reduce latency by preventing additional messages from being sent to the messaging identifier.

  • Publication number: 20180100923
Abstract: A probe is described for analyzing a target using an array of transceivers formed of transmitter/receiver pairs. As opposed to the prior art, the high voltage trigger signals from used to trigger the transmitters are separated from the output signals of the receivers thereby resulting in a simpler and more efficient circuitry. Moreover, the output signals are delayed to compensate for the delays in the echo signals from the target due to the varying distance between the different transceivers and the target. The probe can be used for analyzing pathological organs, as well as many other objects such as gas pipes, airplane wings, etc.
