  • Patent number: 9564120
Abstract: A method of and system for speech synthesis. First and second text inputs are received in a text-to-speech system, and processed into respective first and second speech outputs corresponding to stored speech respectively from first and second speakers using a processor of the system. • Publication number: 20170031830
Abstract: In addition to caching I/O operations at a host, at least some data management can migrate to the host. With host side caching, data sharing or deduplication can be implemented with the cached writes before those writes are supplied to front end storage elements. When a host cache flush to distributed storage trigger is detected, the host deduplicates the cached writes. The host aggregates data based on the deduplication into a “change set file” (i.e., a file that includes the aggregation of unique data from the cached writes). The host supplies the change set file to the distributed storage system. The host then sends commands to the distributed storage system. Each of the commands identifies a part of the change set file to be used for a target of the cached writes.

  • Publication number: 20170026470
Abstract: Viewers of broadcast media are typically isolated from content creators, content distributors, and other interested parties. Gathering and using viewer data can prove expensive, slow, and complex. An example system that can be effective to overcome these limitations includes: a collection of data gathering devices configured to report data relevant to the content experience; a data provider public cloud configured to receive the data relevant to the content experience from the collection of data gathering devices, a processor for aggregating the data relevant to the content experience from the collection of data gathering devices and perform analytics thereon, and a third party service public cloud configured to maintain a secure tunnel between the third party public cloud and the data provider public cloud second communication interface.

  • Patent number: 9552603
Abstract: Technologies are described herein for relating individual items to categories of items purchased concurrently by a customer. A representative category may be assigned to each of the items offered for sale by an online merchant. Purchase history data containing information regarding each item purchased by a customer on a specific date is augmented with information regarding each representative category of items from which an item was purchased by the customer on the same date. From the purchase history data, an attach rate is calculated between each particular item and a number of representative categories indicating the frequency of concurrency of purchase of the particular item with items assigned to the representative category. A user interface may then be generated containing the attach rates between the particular item and the representative categories and sent to a customer computer for display to the customer.

  • Publication number: 20170017554
Abstract: Techniques are described herein which minimize the impact of virtual machine snapshots on the performance virtual machines and hypervisors. In the context of a volume snapshot which may involve (i) taking virtual machine snapshots of all virtual machines associated with the volume, (ii) taking the volume snapshot, and (iii) removing all the virtual machine snapshots, the virtual machine snapshots may be created in a first order and removed in a second order. Specifically, snapshots for busy virtual machines (i.e., virtual machines with higher disk write activity) may be created last and removed first. Consequently, snapshots of busy virtual machines are retained for shorter periods of time, thereby minimizing the effect of virtual machine snapshots on those virtual machines (and their associated hypervisors) that would be most negatively impacted by virtual machine snapshots.

  • Patent number: 9547683
Abstract: This application relates to features for a mobile device that allow the mobile device to assign utility values to applications and thereafter suggest applications for a user to execute. The suggested application can be derived from a list of applications that have been assigned a utility by software in the mobile device. The utility assignment of the individual applications from the list of applications can be performed based on the occurrence of an event, an environmental change, or a period of frequent application usage. A feedback mechanism is provided in some embodiments for more accurately assigning a utility to particular applications. The feedback mechanism can track what a user does during a period of suggestion for certain applications and thereafter modify the utility of applications based on what applications a user selects during the period of suggestion.

  • Patent number: 9548887
Abstract: Techniques are provided for designating, in an overlay transport virtualization (OTV) network connected to a data center, an edge device to act as a backup authoritative edge device (BAED) for an authoritative edge device (AED) for multicast packet encapsulation and forwarding. Data traffic associated with a given virtual local area network (VLAN) may be detected from a multicast source in the data center addressed to recipients in a site group. A mapping may be generated between the site group and a core data group in the OTV network for traffic from the multicast source. Advertisements may be sent of the mapping to edge devices in another data center across the OTV network. A similar configuration is presented for a BAED for inbound multicast traffic to a data center.

  • Patent number: 9546914
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are disclosed to estimate temperature at one or more critical points in a data processing system comprising modeling a steady state temperature portion of a thermal model at the one or more critical points using regression analysis; modeling the transient temperature portion of the thermal model at the one or more critical points using a filtering algorithm; and generating a thermal model at the one or more critical points by combining the steady state temperature portion of the thermal model with the transient temperature portion of the thermal model. The thermal model may then be used to estimate an instantaneous temperature at the one or more critical points or to predict a future temperature at the one or more critical points.

  • Publication number: 20170013421
Abstract: Dynamically switching between broadcast and unicast services for service continuity between wireless networks is presented herein. A system can comprise a detection component configured to determine that a mobile device is receiving a broadcast transmission of broadcast data from a broadcast enabled access point device configured to send, via a broadcast service wireless coverage area, the broadcast data to multiple devices via a point-to-multipoint communication protocol. Further, the detection component can detect a movement of the mobile device from the broadcast service wireless coverage area to a unicast service wireless coverage area. A transfer component can initiate, in response to the detection, a unicast transmission of the broadcast data from a unicast enabled access point device to the mobile device—the unicast enabled access point device configured to send, via the unicast service wireless coverage area, the broadcast data to a single device via a point-to-point communication protocol.
