  • Patent number: 11236606
Abstract: An embodiment of a communication system for communicating between a wired pipe string in a borehole and a surface location includes at least a first wired pipe downhole component and a second wired pipe downhole component in the wired pipe string, a coupler configured to transmit a transmission signal between the first wired pipe downhole component and the second wired pipe downhole component, and a wireless transmission assembly in at least one of the first wired pipe downhole component and the second wired pipe downhole component. The wireless transmission assembly is configured to wirelessly transmit a wireless transmission signal to a receiver antenna, and the receiver antenna is disposed at the surface location and configured to receive the wireless transmission signal.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 6, 2017
Date of Patent: February 1, 2022
Assignee: BAKER HUGHES, A GE COMPANY, LLC
Inventors: Lars Pridat, Gavin Lindsay, Kai Schoenborn

  • Patent number: 7966874
Abstract: Harmonics and subharmonics of acoustic measurements made during rotation of a sensor on a downhole are processed to estimate the location of the imager, and size and shape of the borehole. A piecewise elliptical fitting procedure may be used. These estimates may be used to correct measurements made by a standoff-sensitive formation evaluation sensor such as a neutron porosity tool.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 11, 2008
Date of Patent: June 28, 2011
    Assignee: Baker Hughes Incorporated
Inventors: Gamal A. Hassan, James V. Leggett, III, Gavin Lindsay, Philip L. Kurkoski
  • Patent number: 7544928
Abstract: A method for measuring radiation in a borehole, the method including placing a detector comprising a scintillator and a plurality of photodetectors in the borehole; detecting a radiation interaction with a first photodetector; detecting the radiation interaction with at least a second photodetector; and determining a location of the interaction from the detecting; wherein the location provides information regarding formations surrounding the borehole.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 17, 2007
Date of Patent: June 9, 2009
    Assignee: Baker Hughes Incorporated
Inventors: Gamal A. Hassan, William Madigan, Gavin Lindsay, Phil L. Kurkoski
