Patent number: 6659858Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for regulating air mixing in a heating and/or air-conditioning system of a motor vehicle. In the system, recirculated air and/or fresh air is/are distributed via air-flow control elements to different air vents and supplied to the passenger compartment. In order to optimize energy consumption and provide a simpler and therefore more cost effective arrangement, the proportion of recirculated air is determined as a function of the position of the air-flow control element(s). The control unit is designed in such a manner, e.g., by implementation of a computer program, that signals being emitted by the control unit for opening the recirculated-air intake opening are dependent on, inter alia, the position(s) of the air-flow control element(s).Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2002Date of Patent: December 9, 2003Assignee: Behr GmbH & Co.Inventors: Andreas Kemle, Thorsten Moellert, Harald Riegel, Gebhard Schweizer

Patent number: 5806479Abstract: A cooling system of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle has a cooling circuit, including a coolant/air radiator for cooling the engine, and a heating circuit, including a coolant/air heat exchanger for heating the passenger compartment. The cooling system includes an additional or secondary heater integrally associated with a coolant/air radiator to increase the heating capacity. The problem encountered with modern engines, particularly diesel engines, is that too little heat is available for heating the passenger compartment. Consequently, a secondary heater is needed. The secondary heater, which can be a fuel heater with a burner part and a heat exchanger part, is integrated into the radiator. This arrangement is advantageous in that the burner, with its fuel and exhaust gas line, is located outside the passenger compartment.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1997Date of Patent: September 15, 1998Assignees: Behr GmbH & Co., J.
