  • Patent number: 4738151
Abstract: A drive connection between a drive pinion and a motor shaft. The motor shaft has a longitudinal axial bore into which is force-fitted a pinion shaft which is preferably integral with the pinion. The pinion shaft is shorter in length than the length of the bore in the motor shaft and connects with said motor shaft bore therebeyond to define a cavity between the end of the pinion shaft and the bottom of the bore when the shaft is fully fitted within the bore. A second bore extends from the surface of the motor shaft into the cavity area of such longitudinal bore and has a fitting associated therewith for the selective introduction of a fluid under pressure into the cavity to force the pinion shaft out of the bore for disconnecting the pinion from the motor shaft. In one embodiment, both the axial bore and the pinion shaft have a constant diameter. In another embodiment the longitudinal bore has a stepped diameter and the pinion shaft has a stepped diameter corresponding to the bore diameter.

  • Patent number: 4730951
Abstract: This invention relates to a drive coupling for connecting an output shaft such as for a motor to an input pinion such as for a reducer. A coupling member which has an intermediate portion supported for rotation in bearings in a bracket which is mounted on a motor. The coupling member has one end portion in the form of a slotted sleeve which extends about the motor shaft and is clamped thereto by a clamping collar. The other end of the coupling member is provided with a bore for receiving a pinion shaft in a force-fit relationshp. The pinion shaft may be pinned to the coupling member by means of a spiral pin and the slotted sleeve may be keyed to the motor output shaft by means of a suitable slot and key arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4384863
Abstract: A variable speed belt drive in which the axially moveable sheave flange is connected to the drive shaft by a flexible element which performs the function of transmitting the torque from the shaft to the axially moveable flange, and which defines a fluid pressure chamber for applying a variable pressure to the moveable flange for moving the flange axially on the shaft as the pressure in the chamber is varied by the operation of a control device. The flexible element may be an annular member having a generally U-shaped configuration with inwardly extending side walls, one of the side walls being connected to the flange and the other side wall being connected to a flange-like member rigidly mounted on the shaft. Passages are provided through the shaft to connect the chamber with a source of controlled pressure.

  • Patent number: 4378221
Abstract: A torque cam assembly for variable speed belt drives having a driven sheave with an axially slidable flange, in which a collar is mounted on the shaft of the sheave and has a plurality of cams thereon, and a cam follower structure having generally axially protruding members is mounted on the slidable flange of the sheave for cooperating with the cams on the collar. Wear elements are disposed on the members and are adapted to contact the cams on the collar. Two sets of cams may be used with the cams of one set facing in one direction and the cams of the other set facing in the opposite direction, and a pair of wear elements is provided on each of the members for engagement with the facing cams. Each wear element is provided with a distinct protrusion of a generally conical shape to provide the initial contact area with the respective cam surface, for creating substantially equal load sharing relationship between the various cams.
