  • Patent number: 9455800
Abstract: A device for mitigating effects of impulse noise on data packet transfer over a communication line is configured at least partially according to physical layer characteristics of the communication line. As an example, a data packet retransmission device might be configured to retransmit in response to each retransmission request an amount of data packets depending on the physical layer interleaving delay ID and/or data bit rate DBR.

  • Patent number: 8041009
Abstract: The present invention relates to a wired transmission line testing method for determining at least one physical characteristic of a wired transmission line where the wired transmission line is coupled between a first line transceiver device and a second transceiver device. The wired transmission line testing method first comprises the steps of a first transceiver sending a first known excitation signal over the wired transmission line and subsequently the step of the first transceiver and the second transceiver both generating a first representation of a received signal respectively including reflected or forwarded portions of the known excitation signal and third a processing part deriving at least one physical characteristic of the wired transmission line based on the first representations generated by the first transceiver and the second transceiver.

  • Patent number: 7969883
Abstract: A transmitter device (210) and associated receiver device (211) providing a retransmission scheme for use in communications involving lossy media. The transmitter device (210) receives data packets (201) from a source and adds protection to selected subflows before delivering (203, 206) them to the receiver device (211). The receiver device (211) is able to remove the protection and process (207) the data packets further. The retransmission scheme introduces greater reliability on the lossy medium by restricting the retransmission (208, 209) to a particular link and to selected subflows of traffic in the connection between a source and a destination.

  • Patent number: 7782748
Abstract: A method for determining at least one operational transmit power Snk over a communication channel (Ln) coupled to a disturbance causing transceiver (n) for at least one tone (k), comprises the steps of provision of at least one reference victim communication channel (Lref) for representing at least one reference victim for all victim communication channels which are degraded by cross-talk interferences by said communication channel (Ln), and maximizing the data rate (Rref) over said at least one reference victim communication channel (Lref) under the constraint that the data rate over said communication channel (Ln) achieves a target rate (Rntarget) without exceeding a power constraint (Pnmax).

  • Patent number: 7529176
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for determining a transmit PSD over a remotely-deployed line, which method comprising the steps of: modeling a first far-end crosstalk originating from the line and coupling into a centrally-deployed victim neighboring line, modeling a second far-end crosstalk originating from a further centrally-deployed neighboring line and coupling into the victim neighboring line, determining the transmit PSD from the first modeled far-end crosstalk and the second modeled far-end crosstalk. A method according to the invention further comprises the steps of: expressing the transmit PSD as a function of a line parameter characterizing a line segment of the further neighboring line, carrying out channel measurements of a spare line that connects the central location to the remote location, and that shares common transmission characteristics with the line segment, estimating from said channel measurements a value of the line parameter, determining therefrom the transmit PSD.

  • Publication number: 20090073868
Abstract: The present invention relates to a crosstalk estimation device for estimating crosstalk between disturber communication lines and victim communication lines. The crosstalk estimation device is able to change the power spectral density PSD on the victim communication lines and/or the disturber communication lines. The crosstalk estimation device further receives measured changes in operational parameters on the victim communication lines and/or disturber communication lines in order to estimate the crosstalk induced in the victim communication lines and/or disturber communication lines.

  • Publication number: 20030152156
Abstract: A Multicarrier receiver suitable to receive a sequence of cyclically extended multicarrier symbols comprises the coupling of a window, adapted to window said multicarrier symbols, a Fourier transformer, coupled to said window, and adapted to perform one windowed Fourier transform for all carriers in said windowed multicarrier symbol, a per-carrier frequency domain equalizer, coupled to said windowed Fourier transformer and comprising a tapped delay line per carrier in said multicarrier symbol, and means for performing the equivalent to a sliding windowed Fourier transform, including a sliding Fourier transform. Thus windowing and equalization in the frequency domain can be combined without unduly increasing computational complexity.
