Abstract: A residential gateway has a first, wired data connection and a second, wireless data connection. At least the second data connection connects to a network node which at least temporarily maintains simultaneous connections to at least one residential gateway and at least one mobile station. The residential gateway is communicatively connected to a load balancing controller. A method of operating the residential gateway for controlling load balancing comprises the residential gateway sending a registration request to the load balancing controller. The registration request comprises an identification of the residential gateway and an identification of the network node to which the residential gateway is communicatively connected. The residential gateway receives a listening address from which it receives load balancing control messages, and listens for load balancing control messages from the listening address.

Abstract: Electronic devices having limited memory resources cannot function in a reliable manner when the memory resources have run out. In order to manage such a situation and keep the electronic device operating, a mechanism, called Out Of Memory killer, may be implemented in the electronic device. Such an OOM killer, when an out of memory situation arises, randomly selects a program running on the electronic device and terminates it. The disclosure describes associating a weight to a program running on the electronic device which enables it to determine which programs can be terminated because they are not considered essential and those which cannot be terminated without causing a negative impact on the quality of experience of an end-user. Lower weights are associated with programs that can be terminated, higher weights are associated to essential programs.

Abstract: The present invention concerns a gateway device comprising a first interface to a first network, a second interface to a second network, the getaway having an address on the second network, a router that is adapted to route traffic between the first network, the second network and the gateway, a tunneling module that is adapted to lease the address to a first device located on the first network, a host module for sending and receiving traffic through said router, and a tracking module that is adapted to enable the host module to communicate to the second network when the address is leased to the first device.
