    Abstract: The present invention is a high performance thermoplastic polymer composition that comprises a thermoplastic polymer resin such as polyetherimide, polyethersulfone, etc., and an additive formulated to improve the overall melt flow properties of the final composition. The additive can be a phosphonium sulfonate or an anhydride. The final composition has improved melt flow qualities with no significant depreciation in other desirable characteristics.

    Abstract: An improved method for the preparation of functionalized substituted bisphenol compound is provided. In particular, there is provided a method of making a functionalized substituted bisphenol compound of the formula: ##STR1## which comprises heating a mixture comprising a 2,6-dimethylphenol and levulinic acid in the presence of an effective amount of a macroreticular ion-exchange resin, optionally with removal of the water of reaction.
