    Abstract: A multi-layer barrier coating on a flexible substrate exhibits improved resistance to gas and liquid permeation. The multi-layer barrier coating generally comprises alternating polymer and inorganic layers, and the layer immediately adjacent to the flexible substrate and the topmost isolation layer may both be inorganic layers. The surface of each deposited inorganic layers may be plasma-treated prior to the deposition of the polymer layer thereon, while the surfaces of the polymer layers are generally not plasma-treated.

The support includes a roller cam follower rotatable about a third preselected axis and having a cylindric cam follower surface, a cutting tool disposed in a preselected adjusted position on the support for forming the aspherical surface on the optical lens blank, and a fluid pressure motor conjointly urging the roller cam follower and the cutting tool in a direction generally perpendicular to the third preselected axis.

The machine includes a storage member adapted to temporarily store multiple copies of a publication in a face-to-face orientation, a suction assembly formed of at least one suction cup that is adapted to seize and transport the front most copy of the publication to a dispensing position, a valve assembly associated with the suction cup to cause the cup to vent when in a dispensing position to dispense such copy into a delivery chute, and a slidable backplate biased to continuously urge the remaining copies of the publication forward.
