  • Patent number: 5295043
Abstract: A low-profile, clip-on heat sink for computer chip packages that releasably engages the side of the package and method for cooling computer chips is disclosed. The sink comprises a contact pad attached to a set of beams. Flanges extend down from the outer edges of the beams. The sink is engaged to the package by the flanges which attach to the sides of the package. When the sink is engaged to the package, the contact pad contacts the computer chip. When the chip is operating, heat flows from the chip to the contact pad. Heat then flows from the contact pad to the beams where it dissipates into the ambient surroundings. The sink may be released from engagement by deforming the flanges.

  • Patent number: 4487440
Abstract: An aircraft door latching bolt actuating mechanism in which inside and outside handles are provided to actuate a crank having connections with one or more door latching bolts. The outside handle comprises a T-shaped handle with oppositely extending hand-grip portions for two hand actuation, and which are pivoted for swinging movement between a generally flush retracted position in which the hand-grip portions serve to releasably latch the crank against movement to a bolt releasing position, and an extended non-latching position permitting movement of the crank to the bolt releasing position. The hand-grip portions are interconnected with a common actuating and equalizing member that is supported for rotation with the inside and outside handles, and also for independent reciprocal movements in opposite directions.

  • Patent number: 4459119
Abstract: A lock washer for use with spring type retainer rings such as snap rings, axially coiled springs, and the like, which are adapted to be mounted in a spring-retained holding position upon a shaft or other cylindrical member within a circumferentially extending groove or back of a retaining shoulder, but which may be deformed in a generally radially outward direction to a released position with respect to the groove or shoulder. The lock washer comprises an annular body portion which is adapted for axial face engagement mounting with an associated retainer ring, and is fabricated to provide a plurality of integral bendable peripheral tabs which are bendable over peripheral edge portions of the retainer ring to form radial holding abutments for opposing deformation of the retaining ring to a released position. The bent tabs also serve to axially secure the retaining ring and the associated lock washer against axial separation.

  • Patent number: 4413294
Abstract: A positioning system for floppy disc recording media utilizes a tapered positioner cone mounted on a gimballed structure at the free end of a pivotable support assembly. Straight line, non-tilted entry of the cone into the disc aperture is provided in combination with the gimbal mounting by positive guiding of the axis and attitude of the cone in the entry region. The mechanism for supporting the cone comprises a pivotted assembly incorporating a movable position control with an overtravel guide surface. Movement of a control element first causes pivotting of the assembly to lower the positioner cone relative to the floppy disc. Upon engagement, however, the guide surface and pivot relationship are such that further movement of the control element compresses the positioner cone under a spring force, utilized that the clamping force is controlled and the clamping action is stable until the control element is shifted to release the positioner cone from the floppy disc.

  • Patent number: 4141520
Abstract: A locking mechanism for a swingably mounted flight control surface member of an airplane, such as a rudder, which is embodied in a unitized frame structure that can be applied to either new or existing airplanes, which includes a bracket mounted assembly arranged for mounting within an enclosed portion such as the tail cone, in a position wherein a reciprocable locking bolt may be manually selectively moved by an outside ground attendant to a projecting position in locking engagement with a keeper carried by an adjacent part of the flight control member, and to a released retracted position. The bolt is connected to one end of a rocker arm carried by a rotatable shaft having an end extending to the exterior of the enclosed portion, and being arranged for releasably receiving an actuating tool.
