  • Patent number: 8656402
Abstract: A computer implemented method, an apparatus, and a computer usable program product for controlling startup request flooding. An application server instance is started. If the application server instance is throttled during a startup interval, a Web container thread manager is initiated. If the Web container thread manager identifies it is time to increment a Web container maximum thread pool size for the application server instance, the application server instance is notified to increment its Web container maximum thread pool size by a programmable amount. If the Web container maximum thread pool size for the application server instance has not reached a final maximum thread pool size, and if the startup interval for the application server instance has not completed, the Web container thread manager is suspended for an interval, after which the Web container thread manager identifies if it is time to increment the Web container maximum thread pool size for the application server instance.

  • Patent number: 8005933
Abstract: A servlet filter receives all incoming requests for dynamic content and can be used to ensure that the load on a server does not become too great during the time the server is engaged in start-up. The filter is configured to be the first filter encountered and will evaluate a series of conditions to determine if the request is to be throttled. For selected URLs, a given percentage of the first requests received after start-up are automatically throttled. If the request is throttled, a message is sent to the user that the server is busy but to try later. Servlets that are not throttled are allowed to flow through to be processed normally.

  • Publication number: 20110023897
Abstract: The lighting end or tip of the smoking article is configured in such a manner that the entire front or upstream face thereof does not lie in a plane that is generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the smoking article. For example, at least a portion of the front face of the smoking article lies in a plane (e.g., a generally flat plane) that is positioned about 40° to about 50° relative to the longitudinal axis of that smoking article. As such, the overall nature or character of the mainstream aerosol generated by a smoking article can be altered. This shape may include an ellipse, or may include a first section in a plane not perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and a second section in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. Alternatively, the face of the lighting end may have a shape such that its surface area is greater than the cross-sectional area of the smoking article.

  • Patent number: 7873636
Abstract: Under the present invention, a set of filters (e.g., one or more) is associated with a hierarchical tree, which includes sets of namespace nodes, element nodes and variable nodes. Once the set of filters is associated with the hierarchical tree, a network document is parsed and compared to the hierarchical tree to identify a set of corresponding filters. Each corresponding filter is then evaluated based on the network document to determine which, if any, are “satisfied.” The network document is then communicated to the user(s) that correspond to the satisfied filter(s).

  • Patent number: 7496622
Abstract: An alternative registry lookup Java naming and directory interface (JNDI) provider is used to lookup a service endpoint in a registry of a Web service. The alternative registry lookup JNDI provider examines the new registry file for a service-ref-name element and determines if the element is present. If the element is present, the registry lookup JNDI provider retrieves location of the service endpoint using information in the new registry file. If the element is absent, lookup of the service endpoint is deferred to a standard JNDI provider, which determines the location of a service endpoint based on a Web Services Description Language (WSDL) file.

  • Publication number: 20080110811
Abstract: A filter cartridge which is environmentally friendly in that it is made up of components which are all incinerateable. The ends of a filter element are sealed using potting compound and plastic endcaps. The upper endcap, which is closed, has a pressure relief aperture associated therewith to prevent bowing. In a plugged filter condition the high downward pressure introduced on the upper endcap is compensated by providing the cartridge with centering ribs which bottom on an associated ledge in the housing to provide a positive stop for the top endcap, preventing it from being driven down into and through the filter element. Rubber gaskets are associated with the respective endcaps, and are reliably secured to the endcaps by being snap fit into grooves molded into the plastic of the endcaps. The lower endcap utilizes a simple radial seal gasket which is both highly effective and also positioned to avoid structural crushing forces on the cartridge. A keying system prevents the installation of improper filters.

  • Publication number: 20070186528
Abstract: A filter element and filter apparatus, and a method for fabricating a filter element, include a filter element having alternating layers of a face sheet material and a convoluted filter material, with the alternating layers forming substantially longitudinally oriented flutes that extend axially along, or past, a radially acting seal, into previously unused portions of the cavity of a filter housing. In some embodiments, structures such as struts extending partially across an outlet end of the filter element, or a rigid web formed by a layer of resin extending axially a potted length into some of the flutes from the outlet end resist axially oriented pressure forces on the alternating layers.
