  • Patent number: 8280726
Abstract: An apparatus for wireless communications includes a processing system. The processing system is configured to receive an input sound stream of a user, split the input sound stream into a plurality of frames, classify each of the frames as one selected from the group consisting of a non-speech frame and a speech frame, determine a pitch of each of the frames in a subset of the speech frames, and identify a gender of the user from the determined pitch. To determine the pitch, the processing system is configured to filter the speech frames to compute an error signal, compute an autocorrelation of the error signal, find a maximum autocorrelation value, and set the pitch to an index of the maximum autocorrelation value.

  • Publication number: 20110213583
Abstract: A method of position clustering includes maintaining a set of clusters by storing a rectangular boundary of each cluster in the set of clusters, a centroid within each cluster, and a number of the points within each cluster. The method further includes adding a point to a cluster in the set of clusters when the cluster bounds the point by adjusting the rectangular boundary of the cluster, the centroid within the cluster, and the number of the points within the cluster.

  • Publication number: 20100061333
Abstract: A configuration for downlink signals in a wireless communication system, methods of configuring the downlink signals, apparatus for generating the downlink signals, and apparatus for receiving and processing the downlink signals are described herein. Downlink signals in a wireless communication system are reconfigured in series of frames, with each frame carrying a preamble that provides fast cell search and system acquisition. In particular, the preamble includes a primary preamble and a secondary preamble, where the primary preamble is common to all sectors in a base station and all base stations in a system and the secondary preamble is effectively unique to each base station, and may be further distinguished based on a sector basis.

  • Publication number: 20090257357
Abstract: The subject matter disclosed herein provides methods and apparatus, including computer program products, for determining a link performance parameter, such as a supplemental channel characteristic of a wireless link. In one aspect, a base station receives packets from a client station. The base station determines a link performance parameter based on an error rate associated with reception of the packets. The base station then uses the link performance parameter to determine a modulation and coding scheme for use in transmitting packets to the client station. Related systems, apparatus and methods are also described.

  • Publication number: 20080259879
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and systems for announcing services available in a macro-diversity region of a data frame broadcast by a plurality of base stations in a single frequency network to a plurality of subscriber stations, includes a data frame with at least a data region and a macro-diversity region. A media access control (MAC) management message is generated which identifies content and characteristics of the content in the macro-diversity region. Then the MAC management message is transmitted in the data region of the data frame, wherein the MAC management message is decoded by a client station to determine if there is content of interest to the client station in the macro-diversity region of the data frame.

  • Publication number: 20060025141
Abstract: A soft switch 134 providing wireless PBX voice services to a local area network (WLAN) is used to extend PBX functionality to the cellular domain. A dual mode remote unit is capable of receiving signals both in the cellular system as well as the WLAN. The cellular system is comprised of a data-bearing path and a voice-bearing path. When the dual mode remote unit is within the WLAN, it communicates both voice over IP (VoIP) signaling as well as session initiation protocol (SIP) control signaling over the WLAN. When the remote unit is outside the WLAN, it communicates voice signaling over the voice-bearing path of the cellular network using a standard cellular voice channel. In parallel, it uses the data-bearing path of the cellular network to transmit SIP control signaling.

  • Patent number: 6539204
Abstract: An active cancellation device receives a model of a first signal from a local wireless transmitter. The first signal causes a coupled signal that interferes in a second signal received by a local wireless receiver from a remote wireless transmitter. The active cancellation device generates a cancellation signal based on the model of the first signal, and provides the cancellation signal to the local wireless receiver. At the local wireless receiver, the cancellation signal combines with the coupled signal and the second signal. The cancellation signal reduces the interference in the second signal caused by the coupled signal.
