  • Publication number: 20220233125
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an electrode system for recording nerve action potential (NAP) from surgically exposed nerve and methods for using such an electrode system. Electrophysiological methods are used during repair surgery of peripheral nerve trauma (PNT). PNT is a major medical problem with an annual incidence similar to that of epilepsy. Surgical intervention is provided based on the severity of nerve injury which is determined preoperatively and intraoperatively mainly by electrophysiological assessments. Among those, intraoperative nerve action potential (NAP) or compound action potential (CNAP) recording is preferred for direct assessment of functional continuity of the nerve.

  • Publication number: 20210370071
Abstract: Current state of the art neural prosthetics, such as cochlear implants, spinal cord stimulators, and deep brain stimulators use implantable pulse generators (IPGs) to excite neural activity. Inhibition of neural firing is typically indirect and requires excitation of neurons that then have inhibitory projections downstream. The present invention is directed to a safe direct current stimulator (SDCS) technology that is designed to convert electronic pulses delivered to electrodes embedded within an implantable device to ionic direct current (iDC) at the output of the device. iDC front the device can then control neural extracellular potential with the intent of being able to not only excite, but also inhibit and sensitize neurons, thereby greatly expanding the possible applications of neuromodulation therapies and neural interface mechanisms. The device of the present invention is designed to reduce power consumption by a factor of 12 and to improve its reliability by a factor of 8.

  • Publication number: 20200253487
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a self-contained hand-held device that obtains vital signs accurately, simultaneously, comfortably, and quickly. Unlike currently used devices that require trained personnel and the attachment of sensors to the different parts of the patient's body, this device can obtain all vital signs+ECG and pulse-ox by being held by the patient for approximately half a minute. The device contains sensors on the hand-held unit as well as on the individual/disposable mouthpiece. The method of the present invention includes simultaneously acquiring the following measurements: temperature, pulse rate, breathing rate, blood pressure, electrocardiogram, and pulse-ox waveform and blood oxygen level.

  • Patent number: 10258793
Abstract: An embodiment in accordance with the present invention provides a device and method to deliver direct ionic current safely to target neural tissue, while also eliminating interruptions in the output of the device that can result from the non-ideal operation of the valves used to control the current flow in the device. The device includes two valve-operated systems that work in tandem. The first and second current producing systems are configured to be used together in order to eliminate the periodic interruptions in current flow. In use, one system drives current through the target tissue, while the other system closes all of the valves first and then opens its valves in sequence. This intermediate step of closing all of the valves prevents unintended current shunts through either system. The device also includes two conductors to direct the flow of direct current into the target tissue.
