  • Publication number: 20160183248
Abstract: Embodiments describe example radio access networks where uplink and downlink communications operate asymmetrically. In one embodiment, an inverse fast Fourier transform and an add cyclic prefix operation is performed on a downlink communications by a baseband unit. In an uplink communication using the same baseband unit, a corresponding fast Fourier transform and a remove cyclic prefix operation are performed at a remote radio unit. This generates different levels of traffic on a physical communication link between the baseband unit and the remote radio unit for uplink and downlink communications with similar characteristics.

  • Patent number: 9345024
Abstract: Embodiments of apparatus, computer-implemented methods, systems, devices, and computer-readable media are described herein for a user equipment (“UE”) to generate, for transmission to a remote entity executing on a remote computing device in communication with the UE over an air interface of an Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (“EUTRAN”), a container that includes UE or base station (e.g., Evolved Node B, or “eNB”) configuration data (e.g., an inactivity time interval), or over-the-top (“OTT”) application configuration data. In embodiments, the UE may transmit the container through a logical tunnel passing through the air interface between a local processing entity executing on the computing device and the remote entity. A base station such as an eNB may be similarly configured to generate and/or transmit, to a UE, a container with UE, base station, or OTT application configuration data, through a logical tunnel passing through the air interface.

  • Publication number: 20160044690
Abstract: Technology for performing data retransmissions is disclosed. An anchor evolved node B (eNB) can receive uplink control information from a user equipment (UE). The uplink control information can be transmitted in response to the UE receiving user data from a booster eNB. User data that is incorrectly received at the UE can be identified based on the uplink control information. The incorrectly received user data can be retransmitted directly from the anchor eNB to the UE independent of the booster eNB.

  • Publication number: 20150264699
Abstract: Opportunistic networking systems can utilize one or multiple bands/channels that are shared with other radio access technologies (RATs) (such as wireless local area networks (WLAN, such as Wi-Fi) and mmWave). An unconventional carrier type (UCT) can be defined to support opportunistic networking in licensed and/or unlicensed spectrum. For example, a primary base station can determine a secondary base station activated for use with user equipment (UE). The primary base station can schedule data to be sent to the UE via the secondary base station. The secondary base station can provide discovery information, reserve a wireless channel, transmit the data and/or release the channel (implicitly, explicitly, or by reservation).

  • Publication number: 20150215100
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) can reserve shared spectrum between two wireless protocols upon the request from a tower. For example, an enhanced node B (eNB or eNodeB) transmits a message to associated UEs including a set of candidate UEs, a length of time to reserve, and a frequency band to use. UEs perform medium sensing on the specified spectrum if a UE finds its identifier in the set of candidate UEs. Candidate UEs transmit a clear to send (CTS) message with channel reservation information if the medium is idle. A result of the success or failure of the CTS transmission attempt is sent back to the eNB. Upon receiving the feedback information from the UEs, the eNB starts sending data to those UEs that sent the positive feedback on the channel reservation.

  • Publication number: 20150045057
Abstract: Neighbor cell hearability can be improved by including an additional reference signal that can be detected at a low sensitivity and a low signal-to-noise ratio, by introducing non-unity frequency reuse for the signals used for a time difference of arrival (TDOA) measurement, e.g., orthogonality of signals transmitted from the serving cell sites and the various neighbor cell sites. The new reference signal, called the TDOA-RS, is proposed to improve the hearability of neighbor cells in a cellular network that deploys 3GPP EUTRAN (LTE) system, and the TDOA-RS can be transmitted in any resource blocks (RB) for PDSCH and/or MBSFN subframe, regardless of whether the latter is on a carrier supporting both PMCH and PDSCH or not. Besides the additional TDOA-RS reference signal, an additional synchronization signal (TDOA-sync) may also be included to improve the hearability of neighbor cells.
